Breaking Out Of A Rut! Round II - Card 7

I am breaking out of my rut and making an effort to make some cards that are a bit of a different look for me. I am enjoying shaking up my game a little!

This card is a bit more CAS than my usual cards. It was designed by my friend Elenor...she is my neighbour up at the lake. She and Janice are just a few steps away from our RV lot and the three of us met up at the clubhouse last week. We all brought a card kit for each other. It was so much fun. This was Elenor's design and I think it is so pretty.

Sadly, I screwed up the card a wee bit. I stamped my background with Elenor's grungy stamp (love this stamp BTW). I then matted and tied a snippet of ribbon around the reverse image of the Memory Box Poppy die. Elenor had already embossed the black mat with what I think is Swiss Dots EF. I then attached that to the prefolded card. The actual poppy diecut was glued inside and the "Thinking  Of You" was glued to the front right hand panel.

Now...my problem...

How in the world do you glue down these fine, fine dies? I used a glue pen and sort of waited till it got a bit sticky and then tried to place it with tweezers. Even with 2 pair of tweezers I got it on crooked. Ugggh! In trying to get the glue off where the die had landed incorrectly...I managed to rub some of the surface off the paper just beside the flower bud. Then, when  I was cleaning up around the tall stems I managed to amputate one of the flower heads. I could not trim it up nicely and ink the edge to show less as it was already 90% stuck in place.

So I did what any self respecting crafter would do...stickled the heck out of the flower to hide the torn edge (somewhat hidden).

In all of the wrestling around of that finely cut die, I managed to dent the card! Twice!  So I cut the card into two pieces and then then cut a whole new card base and glued the 2 pieces to it. In all the trimming and cutting, I then managed to trim the black top and bottom mat edge almost down to nothing! I then decided to ink the edges of the white card base with black ink to make it seem like there was a little more of the black mat than there actually is. Now I even notice that I cut the left side a wee bit crooked...Jeeesh!

Me thinks this card will be kept as a pattern as it has too many boo boos to send it to anyone.   lol

But I like the look of it and plan to make another  a few more. I do not know the name of the fold as this is all new to me but this card folds on the left and on the right...it folds in three. The right side of the card folds fully over the middle,  and then it has a partial left side which folds back over that.   Clear as mud...right???

I am being really bold and submitting this card to the following challenges:

1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets (Elenor's snippets)

Oh My Maureen I'm afraid you lost me with all the folds lol! I use Crafter's Companion Stick and Spray, a spray glue, for fine things like words and teeny borders I am sure you could get something similar where you are. I love the card and don't notice all the boo boos, even following your confession! Susan x

The fine die cuts are a bit of a nuisance to stick down aren't they Mo? Still, we persevere as they are sooooo pretty!

Love this card. xxx

Hi Mo, sounds as it you've had "fun" making this card. I love the flower die but agree with you, they can be quite difficult to stick. I've found a cocktail stick with a small amount of PVA glue is the best or if you are lucky and have a machine that you roll through and it adds sticky to the back.

If you are coming over to Scotland do get in touch and I can give you a few pointers as where to visit.

Hugs Erika. x

Oh my, what a story. I am deeply sorry but you have given me the laugh of the day. Not with all your misery but with the funny way you told all of this. And don't worry all of us have had a story like this, messing up a card. (at least I have) Still I like it a lot its a very pretty design. Hugs from Veerle xxx

Turned out beautifully Mo, those fine diecuts are a pain to glue down, you only get 1 chance LOL! Cathy x

LOL! You sound like me trying to get those dies stuck down! I do exactly the same thing and yes....even amputate a bud or two!
I do love the card and the design! VERY pretty and love the CAS look. Gorgeous card and well done all the way around!

You know, the cleanest designs require the most effort, that's my experience. And all the boo boos? You managed to cover them up:) But our feelings about a card is often connected to our experience making them, it's not how others would view it though. I think glue eons aren't sticky enough, that's my biggest problem with small and narrow details. I'm often using a thin layer of glossy accent instead.

I don't know what it in the air at the moment but so many people are having card making hiccups at the moment, including myself! This card is really lovely Mo and you would never know all the problems you had along the way. I know what you mean about trying to glue very small areas. I use Collall glue which is a photo glue and if any stray glue gets on the card it will rub off. The other thing I have seen done is spreading a little pva or similar glue on the back of your hand and just laying the piece down on your hand to pick the glue up. I suppose this depends on whether you are likely to be allergic to the glue, but shouldn't hurt if you wash it off straight away. Don't know if this is of any help. x

Lovely card Mo despite the hiccups. I am sure a non crafter wouldn't notice under the stickles!
For my tiddlies I either use a pen or...stick a blob of glue on the back of my hand and dab the offending article into it. No chance of accidentally sticking your card into it!

What a pretty card! I love the grungy stamp look. You would never know about the mistakes. I have had a bunch myself but there is always a way to cover up! LOL!

Your card is gorgeous Mo, such an elegant design.
I pop any intricate die cuts through my Xyron Sticker Maker to adhere them - you have to make sure you get them in the right place though as there is no getting them back off.

Sounds like you had a fun time but the results are worth the effort. I love the black and red and I love poppies almost as much as I love butterflies. Hugs Mrs A.

Oh this really is lovely Mo - and as you say, quite a change :)

I'm with you on sticking down little die cuts - especially those with narrow stems. Like others I use a glue pen but don't actually run it along the length of the die cut. I do teeny little dabs at about one eighth to one quarter inch apart and that seems to make the chance of 'squished glue' much less.

Hugs, Di xx

Poor Mo. What a time you had with those piddly flower pieces. For something this small I would probably use the Zig Two way glue pen and let it get tacky before sticking. No glue squishing out and it does let you reposition until you really smash it down. It is a great design though. Hugs!

In spite of all the lessons learned while creating this, it turned out to be one beautiful card! I love every detail!

I am so glad to know I'm not the only one who struggles with attaching fine-lined die cuts! I giggled with you (not at you!) as this sounds just like me! I have that poppy die & this definitely inspires me to use it!
