Christmas Card Club - Cardinal Round II Card 12

This fortnight, it was Mary of Carolina Cards turn to chose the theme. Mary loves Cardinal's so it was no surprise when she chose that theme for us to follow!

I upcycled and made a Cardinal topper from a Christmas card that we received last year. It has a lovely satin finish with red mirri edging and I matted it on a snippet of silver mirri from my stash.

I wanted a clean feel to this card as well as the ability to mail it for regular postage! So clean it is.
One sheet of 6x6 paper, a couple of snippets of Christmas border from my bits box, and it was done. I must tell you that the red background paper is very close to the same colour as the cardinal' wing!!! Maybe even a litlel redder. I do not know why my camera is making the paper look a mauve/rose shade!

The fine red and white scalloped border is K&Co and the musical notes scallop I won in a RAK from Aliwinn on Two Peas In A Bucket (manufacturer unknown).  I am trying hard to use my Raks and prizes that I have been blessed with, so was pleased to work in that RAK'd border. Thanks once again,  Aliwinn.

I criss crossed some fine silver cord and tied it with a loopy bow,  just to tie the silver mirri card in.
I let the sentiment  on the designer paper be the wording, and called it a day. This is another card made at the lake and my Xmas supplies up here are sparse.

Recipe
Card base - from my stash
DP - Heidi Swap 6x6 Christmas pad
Card Stock - snippets of silver mirri and snippets of kraft card for the snowflakes
Borders - Red and white scalloped glitter border is K&Co; musical notes border is from a RAK
Bling - Beige Pearls from my stash
Cord - fine silver cord from my stash

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

1. Christmas Card Club - Cardinal
2. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets
3. Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge Extra - must be Christmas
4. Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge - must cover card with paper

Great combo of different elements and I can totally understand why you wanted to recycle that image. The silver string is a nice touch, I like how you tied it.

Oh Mo - You know I love this one! A beautiful recycle and your papers are so pretty with the image too. Love the way you've done the silver cord, and great way to use up some of your RAK wins. You did a great interpretation of the bird theme, and thanks for sharing this beautiful bird with us! Hugs & enjoy your lake time.

In answer to your question - Yes, I do you allow my cards to be pinned, I would be honoured if you add my card to your "cards - boy" board.

A gorgeous card, Maureen! I love the recycled picture - but what really makes the card special, for me, is the crossed silver cord and the bow!

Fabulous reuse of an old card. My camera always makes blue come out a horrid mauve colour. I like your addition of the silver cord to tie in with the mirror card.
Hugs Mrs A.

Puffed up and majestic! That bird is just awesome, Maureen. Beautiful accents on the card, without shifting focus from that noble bird. LOVE it! Rosie is (dare I say) a little better today. Early days yet, but I hope she sticks with the program! Thanks for your love and prayers. I lit a candle for her health at mass yesterday. Have a great time at the lake.
hugs, Asha

Beautiful card, Maureen - love the cardinal. My camera has problems with red too, I'm thinking it might be picking up the amount of blue in the red because it often looks a very plummy red to me :( The silver cord is a great embellishment. Elizabeth xx

I guess you use cardinals where we use robins, especially on Christmas cards. This was a good bit of recycling, and has made a lovely card. Kate x

Lovely card, the picture was well worth recycling. Isn't it annoying when the colours don't photograph correctly.

Oh my gosh, what a beautiful image panel with that brilliant cardinal! I love the snow-covered pinecones and evergreen branches too! Oh So pretty!

Di said...

Really lovely card Mo! I've never seen a red cardinal in the UK - don't think we get them here. Swop you one of Spike's babies for one? :) The twine is a lovely finishing touch too.

It was explained to me ages ago that colours in photos coming out differently when we know they match in real life is all down to the inks used in the printing process. Seems to happen to me a lot!

Hugs, Di xx
