Inky Goodness - Card 8

This is the test card I made on my own, when I was planning and making up the kits for last week's craft day with my neighbour. I was a wee bit nervous cuz had only played with inks once before. I decided I liked the outcome and went ahead with the inky card kits I showed you on a previous post.

I used watercolour paper. Not sure if I like the result on it, but I do like the colours.  I used heavy, water colour paper. I think it was 130 pound paper, but it seemed to get these little grainy spots. Next time I try these, I will use the same card stock I used for the ATC's last year. It seemed to take the stain better and looked smoother, for want of a better word.

I used some stamps that had never before seen ink (NBUS), so that was a good feeling. I think I need to implement a policy of stamping a "practice run" before laying a stamp to good paper.  Stamps seem to all have a mind of their own Some need a heavy hand, some a light touch, some a lighter touch on one side more so than the other.....I am sure you all know what I mean!

I will keep up trying to make inky cards! It was fun and I enjoyed making this one.

I agree that at times watercolor paper gets grainy. I bought Tim Holtz watercolor paper to see if it is different. I like your color choices. And I completely understand your statement about stamps being fuzzy.

I agree, I like how the inks blended on your card. I went back and looked at the one in a previous post. Really nice. I've not done much with inks either, maybe I should give it another try. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a crafty week.

Gorgeous inkyness Mo. The paper I know a little about from when I did watercolour classes. WC 130 lb is not heavy enough and it will pill a little if you add a lot of ink and water to it. Be careful when it pills because you can end up with a hole in the paper.
When I am doing something really wet and inky I go to my Crafters Companion card and I use the back of it. You can get WC paper to do these techniques with but it is really expensive and I have found the card from CC works better. Hope this is helpful for you Karen xx

Hi Mo,
I think that your card looks fabulous!
I know what you mean about stamping onto scrap paper first - I think this especially applies to new stamps.

This is gorgeous Mo. I do love the richness of the colours you have used.
I do sometimes like the distressed look and would not throw them away!
You just have to keep trying to find what you like. Different papers and inks can act different depending where in the world you live and how they are stored.
Hugs

Love your inky style, and those stamps deserved to finally get some ink on them!

This is gorgeous, Maureen! Your stamping looks perfectly fine to me. A suggestion on the w/c paper, as I knew exactly what you meant: try using the 'smoother' side of the paper, might feel better to you. W/C is heavy to put on a card front too! I think your inky fun turned out just lovely, and I hope you will do some more!!! The w/c I usually use is 140, but there is a 98# weight by Canson (inexpensive too), available in Walmart. It works ok too, but again, try the smooth side, if you like that better. :-) It's a lot of experimenting, but fun. Hugs & TFS

Your card is so pretty. I love the deep colour of the inks.
I really like that the ink isn't even…gives it a artsy look to it.

I love the look of the ink--just different than when it's smooth all over. Those flowers are wonderful & perfect for this card. I certainly do know what you mean about needing to stamp off first. Hate it when I forget to do that & it messes up a card--LOL!
