Old Friends

Welcome to Day 6 (our final day) of the November Rudolph days Challenge. You have until midnight tonight PST to submit your entry. You can find Mr Linky on this post here.

Today, I realized I have some old favourites that I have been neglecting as of late. At one of the Langley Stampers Club get togethers. our hostess provided a  card kit made up of Stampin' Up punched shapes.

I have all the punches we used and yet it seems like such a long time since I last used them. Funny how you can have well made tools that work well, cut like a dream, have lovely designs, and still set them aside. Silly me!

Although it does not look like it, this card is the epitome of Upcycling. The red mats and birds wing and branch are cut from the back of old store bought Christmas cards.  The holographic gold mat, bird, and second branch are cut from a huge gift bag from the dollar store.  The bag was a nice heavy weight which comes in handy when you want to pop dot forward small details like the bird, and the leaves.

In the spirit of keeping fairly frugal with this card, we punched the bird, wings, branches and scalloped oval from the center of the two large mats. We were careful not to punch to close to the edges, thereby leaving enough of the outer edges to form the mat!

Recipe
Card Base - hand cut from heavy weight cream card
Mats - read mat is cut from the back of store bought cards
DP - holographic paper was cut from a dollar store gift bag
EF - Swiss dots
Punches - Stampin' Up scalloped oval and oval punch, as well as their Bird and branch punch
Sentiment - gold foil peel off
Bling - clear diamond coloured red with copic marker

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets (the holographic bag and the also the cream oval for the sentiment)

A fabulous card Mo, such a lovely punched bird. I always forget to use the centre of my mats - thank you for the reminder, I really should do it more often.

Brilliant use of scraps and snippets. I'll be chopping up all the cards which make their way to our house.
I think we are dazzled by our new buys and often forget the old favourites.

This card is adorable and oh, so resourceful! I'll have to train my eye to see more possibilities before recycling or trashing paper items.

Great upcycling Maureen, this looks fab. I'm getting into the habit of gutting my layers now (something I never used to do!) and kick myself when I realise I've forgotten to do it. Carol x

It's a wonderful snippet card (how could it not be, with this pretty bird!) good for you at using up some bits & pieces to turn them into such a lovely card. Enjoy reading your recycling & bargains adventures! You always turn out something beautiful. Hugs & TFS

Lovely card and great recycling too, I've been "gutting" layers on my Christmas cards too this year, apart from saving card it reduces the weight when posting overseas, good to tell I'm Yorkshire born and bred !

Brilliant upcycling! Great idea to punch from the center & still use the piece as a mat!
