Birthday Bliss - Card 38

It is my Son-in-Law's birthday in a couple of days. This relaxing image works out perfectly for his card, as he is an avid fisherman.  He keeps their family freezer full tasty fish, but does a lot of catch and release fishing too. We just drove the kiddies over to the Douglas Lake Ranch for their annual Dad's and kids fishing derby. Several families go each year and together they create great family memories of
star filled nights ad lazy days fishing from shore or out in the boats they haul up there.

My Son-In-Law has very strong opinions of the flavour and taste of certain fish and only catches them to eat at particular times. His rules are stricter than the fishing licence rules here, so we tease him about that!
I included a tape measure ribbon on his card as he is so strict he will throw back what actually is legal size here...I think he will get a kick out that ribbon.

I even added one of my precious fish charms from England. It is my last one but he is so worth it.

The birthday sentiment on this card is NBUS. New, but never before used, none the less! Many of you know that I have been on a consumables freeze for quite some time. I recently rewarded myself with some non consumables...this Tim Holt stamp set and a couple of new dies.
The wee tags are a VOS (very old stash) item. They are from a huge package of 20 sheets of press out die cuts that I purchased a few years ago at a scrapbook garage sale. Good to finally use some of them!

****************This is card #38 of 50. I have been on a consumables spending freeze until I made 50 cards (Sook Wang tape and heavy weight card stock exempt).***************

Recipe
Card base - from my stash
DP - snippet of 12x12 scrapbook waves paper from my stash; green dotted and the white woodgrain papers are from my snippets drawers
Card stock - snippets of teal and green card from my stash
Dies - Spellbinders
Ribbon - snippet from my stash
Charm - from my trip to England last year
Stamp - image...will have to fill this in when I get home...forgot to write it down
Stamp -sentiment is Tim Holtz
Twine  -snippet of jute twine from my stash
Tags - from an old scrapbook garage sale
Rub on - hand tied fly rub on is unknown from my stash

I am entering this card in the following challenges
1. Pixies Crafty Workshop -must use snippets
2. Marks Finest Papers Inspirational Challenge - I was inspired by the green of the watermelon rind. It helped me chose the green dotty background paper and I then decided to repeat that green shade by cutting the mat for the image out twice. Once in green and once in blue. I then sliced them in half and used one of each!
3. SweetPea Stampers Challenge - For Boys/Men

Love all the sunshine colors on this fishy card. Great coloring on the relaxing chair, and the tape measure was a priceless touch. SIL will love it. Also that gleaming charm. Great paper for the water...and wonderful lure being cast. I'm applauding you for the 'craft freeze'. You are really making some great cards shopping your stash. I did get the truck stamped, and now to get it in the mail! So glad you are enjoying the time away. Hugs (oh yes, your VOS is a term on the Blog-I-nition page too! )

This is the perfect card for your Son in Law Mo.

My Dad enjoyed fishing too and would often take me with him. I liked to think it was because he enjoyed my company but in reality looking back I think my Mum probably needed a bit of a break! Never mind I enjoyed his company (and playing with the maggots) LOL!!

My Dad would have appreciated this card and I am sure your SIL will too. The ribbon looks fabulous.

Hope you have had a lovely weekend.

Love Jules xx

That is gorgeous Mo! I was going to ask how you are doing on your use it up and don't spend - you are doing brilliantly and I'm so proud of you Mo.
I have spent a little of my money to get a die and a MB stencil. These days I have to be frugal but I've wanted both of them for over a year.
I was lucky that I won the random link thing at Crafters Companion in May and I recently spent the voucher just on card stock. Five packs of card, 200 sheets, which will keep me crafting for the next year lol! Karen xx

Wonderful card Mo - just perfect for a fisherman! I love all the little extras you added, right down to the fly and the measure. Great idea to slice the die cut in two as you did - gives a lovely twist!

Well done for being first again this week.

Playing catch up here!

Hugs, Di xx

Hi Maureen,
Love this card. Great design and that image is wonderful.
My DH used to go fishing a lot but he hates to fish alone, so the last 2 years he hasn't gone.
Now my DH will never eat Cod because he says it isn't right that they have depleted the stocks in the North Sea, and if everyone refused to eat it, it would soon send the stocks back up.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
