Old Friends

Welcome to Day 6 (our final day) of the November Rudolph days Challenge. You have until midnight tonight PST to submit your entry. You can find Mr Linky on this post here.

Today, I realized I have some old favourites that I have been neglecting as of late. At one of the Langley Stampers Club get togethers. our hostess provided a  card kit made up of Stampin' Up punched shapes.

I have all the punches we used and yet it seems like such a long time since I last used them. Funny how you can have well made tools that work well, cut like a dream, have lovely designs, and still set them aside. Silly me!

Although it does not look like it, this card is the epitome of Upcycling. The red mats and birds wing and branch are cut from the back of old store bought Christmas cards.  The holographic gold mat, bird, and second branch are cut from a huge gift bag from the dollar store.  The bag was a nice heavy weight which comes in handy when you want to pop dot forward small details like the bird, and the leaves.

In the spirit of keeping fairly frugal with this card, we punched the bird, wings, branches and scalloped oval from the center of the two large mats. We were careful not to punch to close to the edges, thereby leaving enough of the outer edges to form the mat!

Recipe
Card Base - hand cut from heavy weight cream card
Mats - read mat is cut from the back of store bought cards
DP - holographic paper was cut from a dollar store gift bag
EF - Swiss dots
Punches - Stampin' Up scalloped oval and oval punch, as well as their Bird and branch punch
Sentiment - gold foil peel off
Bling - clear diamond coloured red with copic marker

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets (the holographic bag and the also the cream oval for the sentiment)

Upcycled bit of sparkle

Welcome to Day 5 of the November Rudolph Days Challenge. As promised, I have another Christmas card to share.

Remember this tag I upcycled into a Christmas card?

Today's card is the same image, but upcycled from a card this time. Michaels had 6 packs of the tags and cards  in their $1.50 bins. The image has a mat texture...no sheen at all other than the bit of stickles sparkle.

I matted it on a snippet of green card and once again used another snippet of that VOS 12x12 scrapbooking DP. This DP is quite pretty IRL as the red stripes are glittered. The bit of self adhesive silver ribbon is from the dollar store and the red metallic ribbon with the shot of green stitching through it is another VOS item...eons old, in fact. I found it when I organized my room! Proud of myself for remembering to use it as I usually forget to allow a spot for the ribbon, and then I'm stymied! lol

If you have not already entered this months Rudolph Days Challenge, you will find Mr Linky on this post here. I have two Memory Box dies for prizes this month. Details can be found on that same post.

Christmas Card Club - Robin and Day 4 of November Rudolph Days

It is day 4 of the November Rudolph Days Challenge. Here is another Christmas card to inspire you to join in the festivities. You have until Nov 30th to enter a card.  You can enter your card at the Mr Linky widget found on this post.

My card today is also for the Robin theme that I missed at my local Christmas Card Club.
I am posting my robin card very, very late!  It seems everything in my life is a tad late, lately. Hope the ladies will forgive me.

Our Robin theme was set by Sylvie at Gibmiss blog. Sylvie makes gorgeous cards. It is well worth popping over for a wee visit. The other girls blogs are featured on my sideboard. They always have beautiful cards to view.

I chose a Penny Black Stickeroo as I could not find any robin themed stamps in my stash. I even scrolled through my saved digital images and could not find a true robin image. U|sing a stickeroo also saved my hands a bit of grief.

I used snippets from my bits box to mat the stickeroo and then created a couple more layers of mat so I could place the sentiment on the middle mat. The sentiment is a silver foil transfer rub on from a British Company...the name escapes at the moment. I think it is Craftwork Cards or perhaps Docraft. They were a new item at my local shop that I just couldn't resist!

The DP is actually a snippet of a 12x12 scrapbook paper. I bought up a wack of this paper on a clearance a few years ago. I cut them up into 6x6 squares and filed them into my cardmaking DP's. I used a snippet of white card for a Memory Box snowflake corner die and placed a few red diamonds onto the centers of the snowflakes.

Here is a better shot of that silver foil sentiment...I like the script and plan to use more of these...good thing the sheet of them is huge and contains all different fonts!

Christmas Wreath

Welcome to day three of the November Rudolph Days Challenge. Since this is the last challenge of 2015, I am celebrating by posting a Christmas card or Christmas project  every day until the end of the month. Hopefully these 6 days of Christmassy posts, will inspire you to enter the November Rudolph Days Challenge. You can enter on this post here.

Today's guest designer is only 9 years old! She is someone very dear to my heart...my very own Grandaughter...Little Miss C.

Little Miss C learned how to make a Christmas Wreath and it is proudly displayed on the railing of their front porch. She was beaming with pride to show it to me so I took a photo so I could share it with all of you.

My eldest daughter (Glamour Girl) has a wreath making party every year. Each person brings collects their own greenery, usually a mixture of cedar, fir and pine boughs. Both of my daughters know where to get holly boughs as well, although it is treated like gold and used sparingly!

During the year, whenever they are out hiking or on picnics, they always keep their eyes peeled for interesting foliage they can come back and retrieve as Christmas time.  Sometimes they use red branches, branches with bright red berries or even curly willow boughs to embellish the greenery.

Here is Little Miss C's Christmas wreath this year. She used a metal frame from Michaels and wired her greenery to the frame. It looks to me like she used cedar boughs and four large sprigs of holly. Once done, she sprayed it heavily with glitter spray and added a tartan bow.

I think she did a great job...how about you?

Rudolph Festivities

It is day 2 of the last Rudolph Days Challenge of 2015.  I have decided to post a Christmas card or Christmas project each day of this months challenge. You can enter the November Rudolph Days Challenge here.

Yesterday, I shared a card I made at Langley Stampers Club. It was designed by Joyce and she brought kits of supplies for us to make two cards each.  Today is the second card I made from Joyce's kit. As you can see, you cut the same die from two different glitzy colours.  You then cut mats and cards from these same two colours and make two cards that end up the opposite of each other.

Once we centured the die on a rectangle of red mirri and white Centura pearl card, we cleaned up the debris and attached each diecut to a snippet of double sided adhesive paper. We then poured glitter over the cut away filligree detailing, burnishing it with a spoon to make it stay in place.

Once finished, we then peeled the backing away from the back side of that filled and  burnished diecut, and affixed it to the opposite coloured mat.  We punched a half circle out of each corner and added three snowflakes.  We tied a see through ribbon around a mat of opposite colour and then mounted those onto a white card black.

Here is another view of yesterday's card so you can compare the two.  The same papers were used for each...I just took today's photo at night and the overhead ceiling lights affected the colour tones!

Can't wait to make more of these.

In celebration of our final challenge this year, we have Sarn of Stamping for Pleasure  as our guest designer.  Sarn previously hosted this  challenge. When she wanted to retire from challenge duties, she asked for a volunteer to take it over and keep it going. I volunteered and the rest is history!

Sarn has made us this gorgeous card. I think the background is stunning! There is some gorgeous texture here too. If you pop over to Sarns blog, you will get a more detailed description!.

You may have noticed that I have hardly been blogging or visiting for the last couple of months as I am still struggling with my health.

Luckily, I have still managed to attend Langley Stampers Club.  This month, Joyce brought a kit for us to make two beautiful Tattered Lace Christmas Boot cards.  I am only showing one of  the two cards she designed for us, as I will show the second one on tomorrows post. In celebration of our end of year challenge, I am going to post a Christmas card or project each day, till the end of the month!

Joyce reversed the colours on the second card and that allowed us to inlay the contrasting diecut into each card. We then backed the inlaid die with a double sided adhesive snippet (Sook Wang brand) and then poured glitter over the cut away details. The white card used here is a heavy weight Centura Pearl Shimmer cardstock. Between that and the red mirri card, this card shimmers so much in real life!!!  It was really hard to get a photo without glare or reflection though...you can see the walls and door of my room in the reflection. Luckily, I managed to hide myself!

Here is a close up of the glittered insert behind the die cut image. The glitter shows up nicely in the filigree cut away design.

This card was great fun to make and I now want to try this idea with some of my other dies!

Our Rudolph Days random prize this month is this Flurry Frame, Memory Box die.

I have an extra prize this month. Anyone who leaves a comment on this post (or my Nov 20th post), will have their name entered in a draw for this Twinkling Snowflake Duet Memory Box Die. Prize winner to be announced on Dec 1st.

Also, I am seeking Guest Designers for the Rudolph Days Challenge.

This would be a 6 month term and would entail making a Christmas card every second month and sharing in the commenting that same month. You would receive a Christmas themed stamp set or Christmas themed die in the middle of your 6 month term.

If you would like to be considered for a guest designer spot,  please add DT to your name on your entry this month. I will announce the teams in the New Year.
