Rudolph Days February 2015

It is the 25th of the month and you know what that means...Time for the February Rudolph Days Challenge. Here is a quick recap of the Rudolph Days Rules.

1. Rudolph Days will start monthly on the 25th and will close on the last day of that month.
2. The theme is always Anything Goes, as long as it is Christmas.
3. One entry per person and you just need to enter one Christmas card. (You can have more than one card on your post, but your post will still only count as one entry)
4. You may combine your entry with other challenges (maximum of 10 in total).
5. The winner will be selected by random draw and announced on the first day of the following month.
5. Prizes will be shipped anywhere in the world.

Here is my February Rudolph Days card.

I made my card at an open house at my local scrapbook store. The decorated envelope portion of this card was a make and take there. What fun!

I do not have any recipe for the papers used here, as I selected my envelope, topper and glitter paper from a small box at the make and take counter.  We all added three sequins to the ornament stars. We all used Zip Dry glue and it really grabbed them tight! I think the make and take was probably created to showcase the Zip Dry product, but I must say, it did convince me...

Once home again, I merely added the fancied up envelope to a snippet of striped red design paper I had on hand,. I then mounted that onto a  5x7 card base from my stash...and my card was done. I think this card will be perfect to tuck a small note and a gift card into!

Once again, I have a guest designer Mary H of Carolina Cards.  She has made this adorable Reindeer card to share with us. She has a great post up on her blog, sharing how she created this lovely card.

February 2015 Rudolph Days Prize

Just a quick note to remind you all that the February 2015 Rudolph Days Challenge runs from February 25th to 28th.  This is such a short month...not many cardmaking days left...

Stardust ...my tried and true friend

I am sharing another card finished up  from my UFO VOS box. It was made some time ago, but I wrote this post and saved it to post after the move. I have had bronchitis for over two weeks now, so have not been crafting yet.

 But first, the backstory...

I usually have a double row of stickles sitting out on my desk. I love to look at those little bottles all lined up neat and tidy, all sparkly and pretty. But the truth is, I rarely use any of them with the exception of Stardust.

Today I decided to break that mold and tried a new one.  I feel like I cheated!  I really do not like the look of it...sort of taudry gold and green...with a sort of cheap look like something bought from the dollar store. Ugggh.
Stardust, I promise to never stray again!!!

I made this card much earlier, at a girlfriends Stampin' Up monthly club. She has moved away and I miss her classes so much. She had a great eye and always had something lovely for us to make.

We used her air gun to speckle the background card base and then tore the mats for the image. I so love the way Stampin' Up has everything to match. I stamped the envelope flap with the Easter eggs...I like that look but often forget to do it...

I stickled the Easter eggs along with the hubcaps and door handle of the truck.  Wish I had used my old standby...Stardust stickles. Instead I went for a more festive look with the Diamond stickles and wish I had not done that...sigh...

Update on the craft room unpacking...

I am almost done...Just two boxes of pictures to unpack and hang up in the craft room (and the hallway leading into it)...Yay!!! There are a few piles of items organized but still stacked on the floor till I find them homes Found the second bookcase, and  I am now on the lookout for a third matching one. Once finished , I will post some pictures.

Birthday Wishes

I never seem to have enough Birthday cards. I am making an effort this year to fill up my Birthday card box.  It would be nice to have lots of extras on hand for a change, and see that little box bursting at the seams!

This is a very quick and easy card that I made from scraps I found, when I packed up my craft room for the move. The scalloped mat is a prestamped image. I merely added a 3D butterfly from my stash (Ka& Co I think), onto some of the faux stitching. The rhinestone bicycle was another of my Michaels 25 cent bargains. I love when they have a clear out of their $1.50 bins. You can always find such fun items.  I found several rhinestone images that day so keep your eyes peeled as they will eventually show up here on this blog. lol

The sentiment is a rubon from my stash. I am trying to use up my rubons as I am always afraid they will dry out. Some of mine are 6 to 8 years old! Now those are VOS items! This one in particular is my snippet. Now I know some may think that I am stretching the definition of a snippet here. But there were only 3 left on the original sheet, and I do snip them off the sheet before I place them. I find it is easier to position them that way.

The background card base is turquoise but sadly looks pale blue in this photo...sorry about that!

Update on the move...

Moving day went really well. The movers showed up right on time at 9am with 2 five ton trucks and 5 movers who worked so hard all day. The last items were carried into our new house around 6 pm and we were in! A sea of boxes,  but we were in. Unpacked most of Saturday here, and then returned to the old house on Sunday to clean. My daughters came to help and we were done in about 3 hours...we breathed a huge sigh of relief.

DH and my son-in-law were kept busy packing up the things the movers had left behind. The movers did not take liquids nor anything wet. That meant all the patio furniture, garden accessories and outdoor tools had to be moved by us, as it poured rain on moving day and all those items were dripping wet. The fridge and freezer items and laundry room supplies were also waiting to be moved as they were classified "wet items". DH was looking pretty exhausted by the end of that day. He was sweeping out the garage at the end and looked as if he would fall over if the broom had not held him up!

Those last items filled two pickup trucks! They took them over to the new house and then loaded both trucks again with all the broken down boxes we had unpacked the day before. One final trip to the dump and we were done! Yay!!!

So, 5 days after moving in we were unpacked and settled, with the exception of hanging the pictures. We are having painters in to paint the whole interior, so I will leave the pictures boxes aside, till that is done.

There is one other exception...Oh yes...you guessed it! The craft room has the furniture in place, but not much has been unpacked in that room. I started unpacking in there on the weekend but there were over 70 boxes, so it will take me awhile. Of course the boxes are blocking some of the furniture in there, so it is hard to put things away. Just a game of moving the boxes around over and over, as you work.
There is the additional complication of needing builders in to install a doorway to separate my room from the guest suite.  The builder can not do the work till March. We have a friend staying in the guest suite at the moment. He goes home each weekend and has kindly told me to feel free to unpack my room while he is away each weekend. So that little builder delay slows things down immensely!

I think I have about 30 boxes still to unpack in there but we need to buy another bookcase or cupboard, as I have filled my available storage units. How I miss my old pantry cupboards in the old room!  We are off into the city tomorrow for another specialist appointment, so perhaps may find time to look at bookcases, etc. There is an Ikea sort of on the way home! Oh joy!!!

Rudolph Days Winner

We had 50 entries for the January Rudolph Days challenge.  I removed one duplicate entry submitted in error.

I am so happy about reaching the 50 mark as I was secretly hoping for that many entries. Thanks to all of you for entering, it was so much fun to view your cards and visit your blogs.

With all the frenzy of packing, moving and unpacking, my brain was too full to try learning how to install a random org linky to choose the winner for me. So for this month only, I wrote all the names down, folded them up into a box and drew out the winner.  I did carefully check to see that we had no duplicate names.

I know it is old fashioned of me, but it worked and I am pleased to say that TANYA of  http://littleartcottage.blogspot.de/   is our January winner.
