Rudolph Day May 2013

On the 25th of every month, Sarn at Stamping for Pleasure
http://stampingforpleasure.blogspot.ca/ hosts a Christmas card challenge. A challenge to get a Christmas card made and linked over to her blog.  I love to participate as I am all about getting those my Xmas cards finished before the busy Christmas season is upon us.
I want to be out touring the gorgeous light displays or decorating my house or better yet, baking up some delicious Christmas treats rather than trapped in my scrapbook room, trying to churn out cards!

There is a limit of submitting for 5 other challenges (6 in total) in order to qualify for the prize. I have exceeded that quantity as I already own this stamp set! Un inked yet...my bed!

My May card has a look of the Orient to me. I think it is the colour combo I used...but I like it! The Vancouver area is very ethnically diverse...I have friends from all areas of the globe so it will be fun to chose who to give this card to.

This is a real snippets card as I made it from scraps of 12x12 Christmas paper that I have had for years. This paper was originally used for the second set of Christmas cards I ever made. The red circle with the glittered snowflake is punched from a piece of wrapping paper that I bought at a specialty paper store that used to be in the corner of the Sears building downtown. Oh how I loved to spend my lunch hour browsing through that store when I worked downtown. It is a red, sort of handmade mulberry paper and this is the last scrap...it is quite old!  Sadly the Sears store there no longer exists!

There is one last detail which I know will be a bit of a shocker for you all...and for me too...A snippet of green ribbon leapt out of my jar and somehow attached itself to this card!!!
Although the photo appears to show an orangey red card, I can assure you that this card is a very blueish red...fire engine red!  I am a bit of a hopeless photographer as I see I have also managed to distort the "straightness"!...All the elements are straight on the card IRL but I did have to tear the bottom of the DP in order to fit my sentiment on it!

This card will slide through the infamous slot tester at the post office and only requires regular postage...Yay!

Recipe:
Card base - made from red card stock from my stash
Cardstock - from my stash (black)
Design paper - this is so old I am not sure of the name anymore...it might be Daisy D
Diecut - this is an accucut die I used at the local scrapbook store. If you buy the paper from them, they let you use the dies for free.
Punch - 1 1/4 inch circle punch
Stamp - Sentiment stamp is so old the name is not legible (if anyone knows the manufacturer, I would love to know)
Twine - Red metallic fine string and black fringed knitting yarn were wrapped round the spine and tied.
Ink - all edges were liberally swiped with Memento Tuxedo Black
Ribbon - from my stash
Embossing powder - shiny black
Stickles - Black Diamond

I am entering this card in the following challenges:
1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets
2. Stamping for Pleasure Rudolph Days - must be Christmas
3. CHNC Extra - must be Christmas
4. Stamping Sensations - embossing and texture (the star is glittered, the torn floral edge is stickled the Sentiment is heat embossed, the card base is textured, and the yarns give additional texture

  12. Hi Mo

I love the distressed edges on this card AND you used up some RIBBON too. I need a sit down now, I don't know about you!

As my rule on the number of challenges you can enter seems to be causing a number of problems, I've amended it. You can now enter as many as you like, but only those sticking to 6 MAX inc RD will be eligible for the prize. Hope you feel this is fair.

    Thanks for joining in.

    Hugs

  16. You are spot on, this card DOES have an oriental feel to it, & I love it! Maybe it is the green torn paper???Not sure why it looks Asian, (maybe you put the idea in my head?)..but it's very effective & VERY elegant too. Someone will love it, no matter their ethnicity. TFS (oh yes, I liked your photo confession, makes me feel not so 'alone' in my photography woes- LOL)
