This fortnight, Rachel of Fishers Cards and Crafts chose the theme of Festive Foliage for our Christmas Card Club. What a fun theme!
I had a stamped card started and needed to sit down and colour the image but our furnace broke and I spent all of Saturday morning on the phone trying to get a repairman to come out. We are in the midst of heavy snow, with the roads in very poor shape. I then spend the rest of the afternoon huddled under a blanket near the fireplace! Of course furnaces and major appliances only break down on weekends...when labour rates are in overtime setting. Two hours work to fix it and $440 dollars for the labour alone. Oh my!
After all that, I decided to make a much easier card. I broke into my Never Before Used Stash (NBUS), and chose this Hunky Dory, Adorable Scorable Christmas Church card kit.
I decoupaged the layers for the scene but decided not to use the card provided with the kit. It seemed the wrong size for the image and I did not like the sheen on the paper finish.
I used one of my scalloped square cards instead and used a First Edition, Christmas Wishes DP for the background. I always love the First Edition 6x6 stacks. I wish I owned every one!
You can check out the Festive Foliage cards from the other Christmas Card Club members too. Hyperlinks to their blogs can be found on my right sideboard. If you think you might be interested in joining, drop me an email or tell me in your comment.
Hi there Maureen, goodness what an expense to lay out, but you need your heating, especially if you're having deep snow,BRRR!
ReplyDeleteNow your card is stunning, beautifully designed and so traditional, it's a lovely little piece of foliage in the corner, lovely background paper too. First Edition papers are gorgeous, keep cosy Kate x
Wow, what a wonderful card. Love the image.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Maureen. Hope you are warm and cosy now. Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteOh no poor you. At least now you are cosy. Lovely card exciting to get into new stash even if you have kept it packaged safely for a while. Zx
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame your plans we thwarted by your furnace breaking down and at the weekend too! Anyway the card you made is beautiful. Decoupage always looks impressive and I like the scalloped card you used. Barbxx
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your heating fixed, these things always seem to happen at the wrong times.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing card, love this decoupage image and your beautiful backing paper compliments it wonderfully.

Hi Mo
ReplyDeleteStunning card... Mo ... gorgeous scene.. love it...
Hugs Sylvie xx
Much as I like the quality of the Hunkydory kits I too find the whole kit can be a bit overbearing. Love how you have added to your own design with the first addition papers (another love of mine) and the scalloped card. A perfect card. Glad to hear you managed to get your furnace fixed. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen,
ReplyDeleteoh my what a drastic weekend, and the expense.
Just as you say things always happen when the weather is bad or a weekend.
I do hope your furnace is mended now and your are warmer.
What a great card and such a very lovely image, and your design is super too.
I just love that image as it's so what Christmas used to be like when I was a child.
Now we very rarely see snow even at Christmas.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Beautiful card, Mo. So sorry you had such a nightmare weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Furnaces seem to know when it's the worst weather and act up. Air conditioners have the same trait! Glad you were able to stay warm by the fireplace, and design your card while cuddled under a blankie. I love this wonderful old church image, in the vintage shades with the blast of color in the corner. And the background paper - lovely! I'm not familiar with First Edition, but this paper is such a pretty one, with a shade that would blend easily with many top designs & colors! Glad you have heat now too. TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteThese things always break down when they're most needed...glad you got sorted quickly albeit expensive!
ReplyDeleteLove your card, it's a gorgeous image and the pop of colour on the flowers really lifts the sepia tones of the rest of the image. Carol x
A fabulous card Maureen, such a beautiful winter scene.

I had furnace problems too Maureen! Mine was back in January and the poor guy that came to work on it came 3 days in a row with the last day coming twice. Nothing was wrong with the furnace and he was getting frustrated because nothing was wrong with it. I have a very old furnace, 60+ years old! But he said it was a good furnace and to keep it since nothing was wrong with it. So what was the problem you ask?? He had to tape something together because when the furnace kicked on it would move and it couldn't ignite a spark! Good grief! And would you believe I have yet to receive a bill for his time?!!! Very nice man! Glad you are able to have some warmth by the fireplace. It never fails though, these things break at the most worst times!! OMGosh, this card was easier?!!! This is stunning Maureen! I love that image, such a beautiful image. Love your scalloped card base too and that beautiful paper you used. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope you got your furnace fixed quickly! They always seem to break down on the coldest days! Your card is gorgeous! Such a cute topper and beautiful decoupage! Stay warm, my friend!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely scene, fab card :o) Hugs, Lisa x
ReplyDeleteOh what a bummer, Maureen! Bet you were glad to have the fireplace, at least! This is a gorgeous card--beautiful image & background paper & I always love scallops!
ReplyDeleteOuch! That sounded both expensive and cold. Beautiful card, it's a peaceful scene with lovely foliage.
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen! Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. Sounds like you had an expensive weekend... Glad you got some cardmaking time in though. This card is beautiful!! Such a pretty scene.
