Darnell at djkardkreations is having another NBUS Challenge. NBUS stands for Never Before Used Schtuff. You can read all about it here.
My NBUS item is the 6x6 inch wood grained card base I made for this Thinking Of You card. My card base started its life as a 12x12 sheet of very heavy weight DP that came in a DCWV DP paper pad. It is heavier in fact, than most cardstock! I cut every sheet from the pad in two and then scored and folded each one to create a variety of 6x6 cards.
I already had my Thinking of you image stamped on kraft card and coloured with an assorted variety of pencil crayons...just regular cheap kids pencil crayons, blended with paper stumps and Gamsol.
I also wanted enter my card over at Di's Pixies Crafty Workshop. Di has recently revamped her rules to allow for a two week challenge, with one entry per person. Di's challenge is so much fun and to celebrate her "revamp", I am going to try to make my entries over there true snippets cards. In other words, cards that are made completely from snippets, other than the base card and envelope.
With this in mind, I rifled through my DP snippets collection and pulled out three clear envelopes full of possibilities. I pulled out a fairly large piece of Echo Park Style Essentials brown damask, and chose some smaller snippets for the fishtail banners. The green striped DP is AC Merry, the blue starry snippet s is Bo Bunny Dear Santa, and the green starry DP is Doodle Bug Here Comes Santa Claus. Now I know this isn't a Xmas card, but I liked these colours and stars can just be stars, methinks!
Even the beige shimmery mat is a snippet. I had quite a time figuring out the manufacturer but think it is from a DCWV neutrals mat stack, as it is adhesive ready...just pull off the backing and voila!
I did add a little clear Gelly Roll pen over the North, South, East, West to the right of the tree, and then dabbed a few dots here and there amidst the branches.
I tied a some brown jute around the banners, added a trio of jewels, and called it a day.
I am entering this card in the following challenges:
1. Darnell's NBUS Challenge #8 - use a |NBUS item & optional theme of use coloured pencils on kraft
2. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets
3. Crafty Calendar - Something New ( my 12x12 paper pad which I cut up into 6x6 cards)
Making that heavyweight DP into card bases is a great idea, I have some that would be perfect for it so I may well "borrow" the idea. I love all those snippets, they go so perfectly together - it's a super card

Beautiful card for a friend on the other side of the world :-) I love the elements of maps and wonderful tree symbolizing the duration and expectation.
ReplyDeleteA perfect way to use up NBUS & snippets!

It is a pretty card base and I like the accents of gel pen you added to the image. The star papers are very cute, too. They caught my eye and I did not know if it was Christmas paper. Tfs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great card and a super use of all those snippets we all love to hoard! xx
ReplyDeleteLovely card. I especially like the colors you chose for the banners -- if you had not mentioned it, I would never have thought they were from Christmas packs.
ReplyDeleteA fabulous card Maureen, a lovely background and super banners.

You are an inspiration with how you embraced both my challenge and Di's and went all out with your snippets, Maureen! I need to do the same instead of just an itty-bitty scrap here and there. Your design had me sitting here staring at it for many long minutes with pleasure. There is so, so much to enjoy with this amazing schparkly design! Thank you so much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #8! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteLovely snippets card Mo - sparkly and using lots of pretty pieces of paper. This is how I hope we'll go in the Playground - and you're leading the way beautifully!

Beautiful card! My scrap bin sits right next to my computer so I stare at the patterns and colors for hours on end. It helps me plot and plan. You had a plan for sure, and it made for an exciting result!
ReplyDeleteI've got so many scraps I can make a true snippet card myself. Npbut my snippets are not as tidy as yours, I keep mine in large boots boxes. And it's a mess. But it works for me:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloring on Kraft and love the colors of nature you've chosen. I often mix Christmas papers with non Christmas items and designs and vice versatile, no problemo.
Congrats on combining both the NBUS and Snippets challenge --- that is awesome Maureen!! Fantastic card! xx
ReplyDeleteYour card is just wonderful! I love trees! The colors are great and what a great idea to use primarily snippets for a card! That might help my big pile...
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! What fun we can have with our tidbits! Big hugs, Autumn
ReplyDeleteLovely snippets card, Maureen, and I love the papers you chose too. Nice to see there's plenty more tidbits for you to create with :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx
