This fortnight, Christine @ Christine's Cards and Crafts chose the theme of traditional colours for our Christmas Card Club Challenge. I love to use traditional colours but it seemed my mojo was missing...
How is it that a person can have scads of patterned paper pad and yet still can not find the colours or patterns that they need? I envisioned two DP, one with a green pattern and one with a red pattern. Could not seem to find a red tone that was crisp. They were all either too burgundy, or too corally looking.
So I eventually gave up and used this red card for the mat for the tree. Not sure I like it though...
I was out of time from too much dithering about, so I made this card up anyway and thought it might work out for one of DH's pals. It seems too plain. Hopefully that means it has a masculine feel...
Recipe
Handcut 5 1/2 inch square card, used as tentfold
Specialty paper - DCWV green glitter paper; snippet of heavy weight green satin card
DP - snippet from my stash
Dies - Spellbinder; Quick Cuts; Quick Cuts scalloped corners; Sue Wilson Christmas Phrase Tree
Bling - Dollar Store diamond bling
Stickles - Stardust
Once I had my card assembled, I went over the corner dies, the edges of the red mat and the edges of the Ivy DP with a generous coat of stickles.
I am entering this card in the following challenges:
1. Christmas card Club - traditional colours
2. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets
Beautiful card Maureen. A real traditional look about this one. Love it. Hugs Rita xx

This is probably my favourite Christmas die Maureen. The red and green look great. I know exactly what you mean about the wrong shade of backing papers. I had the very same problem the other day when I was trying to find a green patterned paper. In the end I made a different card ... lol! Hope you are well. Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteLovely card, Maureen. That really is a super tree die. xx
ReplyDeleteI think it looks really great with that mix of paper and cardstock! Very Christmassy and festive!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card
ReplyDeleteLove Chrissie xx
I totally understand about the papers! This turned out beautifully though, love that tree. Cara x
ReplyDeleteGot a big chuckle from your paper dithers, as I do the same. With all the scads of papers, packs, still don't seem to have 'just THE color' that I think will look ok. What you finally settled for, however, looks so pretty with that fantastic tree word die. Love the matting, love the layout, and the holly dp looks great with the solid papers. Nice little extra to add the corner trims! TFS & Happy Sunday. Hugs
ReplyDeleteFab card Maureen. Super layers showcasing that lovely tree sentiment. Zx
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Maureen and love the reds and greens and the die cut tree featuring all the Christmas words. A wonderful design. x

Gorgeous traditional card Maureen. Sometimes it seems no matter how much stash we have, we never have the right thing! Carol x
ReplyDeletegreat use of trad colours Mo - lovely work xx
ReplyDeleteI think the plain red card works well with the green DP and gives a nice traditional feel. I spent ages looking for papers to use and in the end one of them has a wrapping paper on it! Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteThe colours are great and love the die and the sparkly green.
ReplyDeleteBig day tomorrow, done the cards but not taken the photo's yet, so could be a day late.

I think it's great for a male or female recipient! Love those corners!
ReplyDeleteThe tree shaped word die is very festive and looks great against the red mat. A lovely Christmas card. I have the same problem as you - spend most of my time looking for coordinating items to use and run out of crafting time :/

Fabulous card Mo ... Love that Die...

OMGosh Maureen, I have the same problem with paper!! I have hoards of it but can never find exactly what I'm looking for. Drives me crazy because one would think with all the paper one has one could find what the right shade! I do love how your card came out though Maureen, it is so pretty with the glitter paper and stickles. Love the word tree design as well as the photo corners. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about finding things that match even with a house full of goodies--haha! However, I think this is just beautiful, Maureen, & would work for a guy or a girl! Love the tree made of words!
ReplyDeleteWell Maureen, lost mojo aside you've made a fab card, I love the die as the focal point and it's a great design, Kate x
ReplyDeleteIt's not too plain. And saying that I don't mean it can't work for a man, it's traditional, with glitter, which I love on Christmas cards, but how we view our own work is much related to how we felt making it, and with mojo lacking so does your enthusiasm about this card. Or at least, that's how it's for me. But surely for many other crafters too.
ReplyDeleteGreat card Mo! I've been trying to track that fabulous die down - so far I'm on a couple of wait lists :) Your ears should have been burning last week when I was telling Darnell and Mrs A about your trip over here and our fabulous day at Highclere. I think she was almost ready to juggle her schedule to see if she could fit a visit in! We were at a party on Friday last week and it turned out that the couple we were talking to have a link with Highclere. He's the groundsman who looks after their cricket pitch - which apparently has featured in Downton Abbey - I believe they got a fully refurbished cricket pavilion out of the film company!! :)
