My girlfriend and I love to garage sale. We try to go a few times each summer and always have a blast.
A couple of years ago, I bought this embroidered fabric floral spray. I believe it is from the 1990's or so when older ladies affixed these types of embroideries to sweatshirts! This embroidery was new in package and was only a quarter! The outlined stitches are a lovely silver metallic thread and the flowers are given some depth with what looks like stickles!
Here is a closeup of the metallic sparkle...
I finally made this up into a card, but wish I had thought to use some silver mirri card. I chose not to at the time, as I was trying to keep this card from looking to dated and gaudy. A mistake, methinks. I even debated pulling up the first aqua layer of the card and rematting it with a thin mirri border, but I could not get it to budge...Sook Wang tape holds really tight!
DP are from my snippets files and sentiment is a rubon.
I am entering this card in the following challenges:
1 .Pixies Crafty Workshop- must use snippets
Oh my Maureen this looks fantastic. Great idea to use the embroiderie for a card. Gr Veerle

How fabulous is this Maureen? And what a bargain! No wonder you love your garage sales. Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely with the gorgeous shimmery effect on the edges. I still have a bag of embroidered flower motiffs from when I used to add them to the clothes I made my daughter as a child. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic find! (I remember those sweatshirts!) I like how you've matted it, the soft background colours really emphasise the embroidery!

This is so lovely. What a beautiful floral spray. You certainly got a bargain there. You'll have to make sure your card is sent to someone who will really appreciate how old and precious it is. Barbxx
ReplyDeleteHi there, lovely card and what a lovely find at your garage sale, hugs Kate x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea. Lord knows I've got a few of these shirts tucked deep in my dresser. And the card you made is perfect and it's not too gaudy, even if you'd added the mirri card stock. I love it. Well, off I go, I think it's time to raid the dresser for card making materials! Thanks for sharing this beauty!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful and looks perfect just as it is xx
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, such a gorgeous embroidered flower - a real bargain.

Lovely card Mo! What a find that wonderful embroidery was - and I think it looks wonderful as it is on the background you've used. Silver mirri card might have detracted from the embroidery itself.

What a find, what a treat! What a striking clean design!
ReplyDeleteLove the sparkly detail on these pretty flowers. Great idea to recycle this applique piece onto a card, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteGarage sales - or yard sales as we call them - are so fun - I haven't gone in ages but you just never know what you'll find! This is gorgeous - love the sparkle!
ReplyDeleteYou always find the best things! Pretty image, and very sparking with the silver thread. How clever to use a sewing item to take center stage on your pretty card. I think it looks just fine with the background paper, but I do know about the Sookwang stubbornness! Actually the muted dp allows the image and silver thread to show off, probably better than the mirror paper would have! So your original instinct was just right! TFS & Hugs. (Now that I got the CCC finished & posted, I can start on Rudy! I did put a reminder on my post today!)
