With great sadness, I had to make a Sympathy card today for my neighbour at the lake. She lives just across the street from me, one door down. She is a cardmaker and we have made cards together in the past. They arrived at the resort just as we were leaving last time. Shortly after we left, their son passed away very suddenly.
I may not see her at all now this summer, as she and her husband are staying home to help out on the family dairy farm that her sons had taken over. I am sure their help is greatly appreciated but it must be difficult to help out while you are still grieving.
I did not have a Sympathy card kit made up, so this is another card from my bits box. Luckily, I had some of my little photo albums of diecuts with me, so armed with those, I managed to put a card together. I rifled through the handmade card kits I had brought and raided the butterfly, the flower and the black doily. The leaves and corner pieces from that photo album storage, were all diecut from snippets of various card stock, before we moved. Easier to just move the albums, rather than a zillion little pieces of card. That way they were protected in the photo sleeves and had the added bonus of being matching embellishments.
The sentiment is a rub on. It slid onto the textured cardstock like a dream. I totally recommend this brand...MSE Sentimental Rubz. No, I am not being paid or sponsored by them! lol
The 3 D flower and butterfly already had a generous amount of sparkle...here is a wee closeup of the flower...
Recipe
Card base and envelope - 5 1/2 inch square textured card and envelope from my stash
DP - unknown 6x6 Xmas DP from my stash. It somehow became separated from the original pad.
Card - snippets of turquoise and blue
Dies - Spellbinders petite scalloped circles, Acucut corners, forgot to jot down the leaves manufacturer...sorry
Doily - Black doily from Michaels sale bins
Butterfly- 3 D butterfly from the craft dollar store near my old house Multicraft Imports)
Flower - K and Co 3D flower (eons old...this is my VOS item)
Sentiment - MSE Sentimental Rubz (My Sentiments Exactly)
Ribbon - Glittered Washi tape from the dollar store
I am entering this card in the following challenges
1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets
Hi Maureen,
ReplyDeleteoh how we all hate to have make these cards.
I am so sorry for her loss, as we don't expect to out live our children.
Your card is a fab design, and I am so sure it was appreciated.
Love and big hugs from my house to yours.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
I am so sorry to hear about your friends loss. Such a shock for the family when it happens so suddenly, as we have just experienced ourselves. You have made a lovely card for her, even though this sort of card is the one we never want to make. Hugs Christine xx

A beautiful card and sentiment Maureen. Carol x
ReplyDeleteBrilliant card for the occasion and I especially like the Friendship part of the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteI have just used my last Sympathy card and it is on my list to make some more, as I can not do with having to make them at the time someone has departed as it upsets me too much but if I make them when all is fine then that is ok.

Hi Maureen
ReplyDeleteHow sad. I cannot even imagine how awful and heartbreaking it must be to lose a child.
I am sure your friend will greatly appreciate your beautiful card. What a lovely sentiment.
Thank you for your kind comment on my blog too.
I think you will find that my lack of feeds on your blog is due to my lack of posting at this end - and blog hopping is near on impossible at the moment!! :-( Things have been super manic on the wedding front (and I haven't even made a Christmas card yet this year .. shock horror!!).
Have a safe journey home Maureen.
Love Jules xx
You've made a gorgeous card for such a sad occasion Maureen. I feel so sorry for all of you, what an absolute tragedy for the family. Big hugs to you and please take care. Love Sue Pxxx
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your friend's loss. Your sympathy card is very pretty, and all the more impressive in that you didn't have 'just right' supplies to hand to craft. Your ability to create something comforting in this sad instance is impressive, and this is a card you can be proud of! Stay cool in the heat, and TFS. Hugs too.
ReplyDeleteThese cards are so hard to make, but I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated in this difficult time. It's not too cheerful, nor too serene, perfectly balanced.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful card Maureen, perfect for such a sad occasion.

What a gorgeous card Mo. Perfect for the sad occasion. I dislike making these too, and tend to make them in advance so I do not feel so sad whilst making them. Somehow mojo goes awol at the time.

This is a beautiful sympathy card Mo, I'm just so sorry you had to make one. I will keep your neighbor in my prayers as it can't be easy to lose a child. Just down right not in the natural order of things! I know your card will help bring some comfort to them. It sounds like they have a lot of work ahead of them as well as their grieving. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteHow sad for your friend and for you, Maureen! You've put together a perfect sympathy card! I'm sure your friend will appreciate it and the love behind it.
ReplyDeleteIt is horrid to have to send a sympathy card at any time but even more so in this case. It always makes me think how I would feel if that was me! This is a lovely card though Mo and I'm sure your friend will have greatly appreciated it. x
