Christmas Card Club - Let it Snow

This fortnight Christine of Christine's Cards and Crafts chose the theme of Let it Snow. This was a great theme for me and I wrestled with several ideas for my card design.

I finally settled on this Angel image nestled into a lovely cloud of snowflakes. She was stamped and embossed onto another of the 50 cnt tags that I purchased at the scrapbook store garage sale. The inky background and the inked edges were also already finished on this tag so I can't offer any clues as to the recipe! The embossing powder was holographic and has a lovely sparkle.

This tag is pop dotted onto a white and a cobalt blue snowflake embossed backgrounds. These embossed pieces were also bought at that sale for 5 cents each!  I merely needed to add two snippets of the silver glittered border (complete with diamond accents).  Due to the depth of this border it is better to cut it up into snippets and slide them under the focal point. That cuts back on a bit of depth not to mention bumpy layers, under the thin tag

The silver Memory Box pine bough die and a few diamond accents finished up my card.

My guest designer this month is Valerija of My Joy Blog.. She has made this gorgeous card using the Memory Box die she won here at the May Rudolph Days Challenge. I love the snowy background behind that great diecut frame, and also the little scarf she added to the buck.

My card today, is a bit distressed and earthy. Hope you like it.

The tree image is from a stamp off class held at my local scrapbook store a few years ago. I so liked the feeling of using up a VOS item from my stash that I decided to chose my card design based on using the last of some my other embellishments.

The sentiment diecut was a leftover, already distressed with a bit of craft paint and the two kraft Marianne Design corner diecuts were left from another card.  I donated all my craft paints when I moved house so  took a swipe of Annie Sloan chalk paint to them to try to get them to match. I got a bit of paint onto the enamel dots as they were already in place from the previous card design.  I then had to scrub them clean...thank goodness for baby wipes!

I managed to find a Merry Christmas rubon to fit that teensy sentiment die, and added a few tiny diamonds to the tree. I even threw a couple of diamonds onto each corner just to tie them in.
All in all, I am pleased with this card. I emptied out a couple more pages from my diecut embellishment storage and used up a couple more snippets for the oval brown mat and the background paper. Now I can pop over to visit Pixies Crafty Workshop where the challenge is always "must use snippets".

The prize this month is this Memory Box, Merry Christmas script die. Good luck in the prize draw!

Over 40 Celsius? That's smokin' hot...

It has been so smokin' hot up at the lake...so hot I have hardly felt like crafting. I have only wanted to hang out at the pool...floating for hours...just trying to cool off.

But Tuesdays are craft day with my friends, so we all brave the heat and spend the day crafting, and talking, and laughing!  Funny how those days go. I think we enjoy the friendships we share there, as much as the crafting!

Once again, I have been trying to use up some images I coloured years ago and also trying to use up some snippets. This is not the best colouring job...my markers bled outside the lines! Don't look too closely!

Started with a 5 1/2 inch square card and envelope from my stash. Added some snippets of unknown DP.  I am proud to tell you that I remembered to use some washi tape. Glittered washi tape at that! I have decided that I love this particular washi. It is super slim and wraps around the cardstock so nicely, without added extra depth. The shimmer is a high degree of sparkle...and best of all...it came from the dollar store. I wrapped the washi tape round a border snippet of kraft card, to try to tie in the brown colours on the bird.

Die cut the Stamp Happens, Blubird image with a Spellbinders circle die and mounted it on a Spellbinders scallop mat (cut from a larger kraft snippet). The image was coloured with copics and generous amounts of Stardust Stickles were added here and there.

The pink on the flower blossom seemed to be asking me to add more pink to this card, Do you remember the garage sale I mentioned in my last post? Well, there was a lady selling embossed mats 20 for a dollar or 5 cents each!  I picked out a couple of dollars worth...luckily one was the right shade of pink. I matted it with another kraft card snippet and off centered the Blubird image on it..

The embossing spells out Happy Birthday in all different font sizes. Solves the sentiment as well...lol Sorry, don't know the name or make of the EF...

Glimmery Washi - My new obsession

I am becoming obsessed with my dollar store glimmery washi tape. It gives a perfect touch of sparkle...really shimmery yet not bright and tawdry. Thank goodness I bought three colours, pink, blue and black. I know washi is sort of been there, done that, for some. But I never got into it before. You can expect to see lots of glimmery washi tape on my posts to come!

I was sorting out my snippets today and noticed this Heidi Grace Dreams DP. The random blue butterflies on it caught my eye. I knew I had a blue 3D butterfly with me and a quick perusal of my card at hand found this shimmery pearl blue card for the mat.

All that looking to find something to go with more of my blue washi...lol

First, I got the glimmer washi on the corners of the DP, and then matted and mounted that onto  my card base. Thank goodness there are a few pale pink teensy butterflies on this DP to tie in the pink on the ballerina's tutu. I was able to use one of the Ballerina Kiddo images Little Miss C and I coloured last year. There is a generous amount of Stardust Stickles on her wings and on her tutu! Hope you can see it...

.I didn't have any complementary die cut circles on hand up here, so used a pink doily instead. Two doilies to be precise...I find two always makes the colour crisper.

Tied the blue back in with the blue butterfly and called it done! If you look really closely, there is a wee diamond on the center of the fairy wand. That Gem will let me pop by Mrs A's Butterfly Challenge as the theme is Butterflies and G for Gems.

I am trying to make some simpler cards lately. Cards to fill up the finished card box.  This one will most likely by used for a birthday, but could be pressed into service for other occasions, so I have not added a sentiment yet.

With Sadness

With great sadness, I had to make a Sympathy card today for my neighbour at the lake. She  lives just across the street from me, one door down. She is a cardmaker and we have made cards together in the past.  They arrived at the resort just as we were leaving last time. Shortly after we left, their son passed away very suddenly.

I may not see her at all now this summer, as she and her husband are staying home to help out on the family dairy farm that her sons had taken over. I am sure their help is greatly appreciated but it must be difficult to help out while you are still grieving.

I did not have a Sympathy card kit made up, so this is another card from my bits box. Luckily, I had some of my little photo albums of diecuts with me, so armed with those, I managed to put a card together. I rifled through the handmade card kits I had brought and raided the butterfly, the flower and the black doily. The leaves and corner pieces from that photo album storage, were all diecut from snippets of various card stock, before we moved.  Easier to just move the albums, rather than a zillion little pieces of card. That way they were protected in the photo sleeves and had the added bonus of being matching embellishments.

The sentiment is a rub on. It slid onto the textured cardstock like a dream. I totally recommend this brand...MSE Sentimental Rubz. No, I am not being paid or sponsored by them! lol

The 3 D flower and butterfly already had a generous amount of sparkle...here is a wee closeup of the flower...

Recipe
Card base and envelope - 5 1/2 inch square textured card and envelope from my stash
DP - unknown 6x6 Xmas DP from my stash. It somehow became separated from the original pad.
Card - snippets of turquoise and blue
Dies - Spellbinders petite scalloped circles, Acucut corners, forgot to jot down the leaves manufacturer...sorry
Doily - Black doily from Michaels sale bins
Butterfly- 3 D butterfly from the craft dollar store near my old house Multicraft Imports)
Flower - K and Co 3D flower (eons old...this is my VOS item)
Sentiment - MSE Sentimental Rubz (My Sentiments Exactly)
Ribbon - Glittered Washi tape from the dollar store

June Rudolph Days Winner

We had  47 entries this month. There were so many wonderful cards. Thank you all for participating! Once again I have used Random Org to chose the winner...and the winner is #19 KT Krafts

Here is a photo of the winning number. I did have to draw a couple of times as the first couple of winners were playing just for fun this time. Third time lucky though...

Kathy @ KT Krafts, you have won the Hampton House tag stamp, and die set. Please email me at scrappymo1@gmail.co and let me know your mailing address so I can get your prize posted to you.

I have had a couple of entries where I was not able to leave a comment as I needed to join google plus circles.  If anyone knows a way to avoid this problem and leave a comment on these type of blogs, could you please let me know. I feel so badly to not visit all my entries!
