Once again it is time for a Christmas Card Club Challenge. Lorraine at Rainey's Craft Room chose our Snowman theme this fortnight..
I am still working on using up that card kit I found. I used my last prefolded brown card base and another of the already embossed, red damask card mats. You probably recall the kraft scalloped square, and you can just see the edge of another Swiss Dots brown embossed square, peeking out from behind the image.
The image is a precoloured Sassy Cheryl and I went over the snow with a Martha Stewart glue pen and sprinkled some sparkly WOW embossing powder. Here is a close up of that sparkle...
I punched the sentiment (I think it is a Stampin' Up sentiment) with a Stampin' Up Window Word punch and layered it onto a snippet of brown card using their Modern Labels punch. The brown card does not match the rest of the browns, but seems close enough that only you and I will know for sure!
What I do notice though, is the difference in the white of the image and the white of the sentiment. I broke my usual rule of stamping the sentiment onto the offcuts of the image. Instead I used up a sentiment that I had stamped out long ago and had stored in my Xmas bits drawer. Not happy with myself as it seems rather glaringly at odds, to me.
If you would like to have a peek at the other cards, I have hyperlinks to all the members cards on my right sidebar. You will not be disappointed as there are always wonderful cards there!!!
I am entering this card in the following challenges:
1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets.
Hi Maureen what a fabulous snowman! Love his little rosy cheeks and your added glitter. I know what you mean about sentiments on different coloured white, I usually add DI to hide it! I must say I can't see any difference between the two whites on your card but perhaps it is more noticeable IRL! Susan x
ReplyDeleteThis is a great snowman and a very cute one too. And I just love the red embossed background. Beautiful. Greetings from Veerle x
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this poor fellow really looks cold!! Super image with all the ice on him - making me feel chilly! It really is amazing the different shades of white card, you have to be so careful don't you? Hope all is well with you and yours. Hugs Christine xx

ReplyDeleteLove your cute snowman Maureen, he looks very jolly with his bright coloured outfit. Your sentiment looks fine in the photo but you could glitter the edges to tie in with the image if you're not happy. Carol x
ReplyDeleteThe whites on the sentiment and image look just fine together. I never realized there were so many different colors of white out there!!!
ReplyDeleteLove that sweet image and against the red is so pretty. Great addition on the sparkle you added too.
Lynn
I love your snowman. He is mega cute. I had such fun making my cards for this fortnights theme. HugsMrs A.
ReplyDeletesuch a cheeky snowman Maureen he is such fun....xxxxx
ReplyDeleteI think the only one noticing the color difference of the image and sentiment is you. They're placed a bit a apart and the strong color of the embossed background is what draws attention. I think it's cute and you should leave it like it is:)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, lovely colours and a fab image.
ReplyDeleteKath x
Now he is seriously cute Mo - a lovely image that I adore. Gorgeous card hun and I can't see any problems with it - the brown is perfect because it stands out from the background, I can't see the difference in the white but we all know we are our own critics, hope you have a lovely week Karen x
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous Christmas card Maureen, I love your adorable snowman and lovely warm red background.

It's fabulous, Mo. I hear you about the whites, but I think it looks just great here. Not all matchy, but not that great of a contrast either. Design detail!! A cute image, liked the way you added more sparkle. Pretty layout and really liked the sentiment effect that you did. I think the nice brown with the 'different white' made it work just very nicely for your card. Love it!! TFS & Big Hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh what a darling card--love it!
ReplyDeleteHi there Maureen (hope you are both OK and looking forward to the move!) This is a beautiful card and I love the image although the snow on top of the carrot nose is making me giggle - not sure why!! OH ... hand on heart, I can't see the difference in the whites on your card - I'm like Susan Flynn though and use DI on the edges if I do have two different shades.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you Sue Pxxx

ReplyDeleteSuper layout and colours, hugs Kate x
