This fortnight, it was Mary of Carolina Cards turn to chose the theme. Mary loves Cardinal's so it was no surprise when she chose that theme for us to follow!
I upcycled and made a Cardinal topper from a Christmas card that we received last year. It has a lovely satin finish with red mirri edging and I matted it on a snippet of silver mirri from my stash.
I wanted a clean feel to this card as well as the ability to mail it for regular postage! So clean it is.
One sheet of 6x6 paper, a couple of snippets of Christmas border from my bits box, and it was done. I must tell you that the red background paper is very close to the same colour as the cardinal' wing!!! Maybe even a litlel redder. I do not know why my camera is making the paper look a mauve/rose shade!
The fine red and white scalloped border is K&Co and the musical notes scallop I won in a RAK from Aliwinn on Two Peas In A Bucket (manufacturer unknown). I am trying hard to use my Raks and prizes that I have been blessed with, so was pleased to work in that RAK'd border. Thanks once again, Aliwinn.
I criss crossed some fine silver cord and tied it with a loopy bow, just to tie the silver mirri card in.
I let the sentiment on the designer paper be the wording, and called it a day. This is another card made at the lake and my Xmas supplies up here are sparse.

Hi Mo, what a lovely Christmas card, at at last I now know what a Cardinal is, looks a pretty bird, but I wonder if it's found in the UK. Fab colouring and design, I do like the silver cord, love it all really, hugs Kate x

PS I hope you are both well.
Great combo of different elements and I can totally understand why you wanted to recycle that image. The silver string is a nice touch, I like how you tied it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Mo. I think we are all trying to use up our winnings as well as our old stash and I think you have achieved it here. Really beautiful Karen x

Oh Mo - You know I love this one! A beautiful recycle and your papers are so pretty with the image too. Love the way you've done the silver cord, and great way to use up some of your RAK wins. You did a great interpretation of the bird theme, and thanks for sharing this beautiful bird with us! Hugs & enjoy your lake time.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, that image is beautiful! Its a real challenge keeping cards flat enough for posting but you've done a fab job here
ReplyDeleteClaire xx
Love this Maureen, what a good idea to keep the image from a card sent to you, I really must try to remember to do this! Susan xx

WOW! This is stunning! Great recycling on that cardinal image and love everything about this card. The criss crossing of the cording really makes it different and so lovely.

A gorgeous card, Maureen! I love the recycled picture - but what really makes the card special, for me, is the crossed silver cord and the bow!

Fabulous reuse of an old card. My camera always makes blue come out a horrid mauve colour. I like your addition of the silver cord to tie in with the mirror card.
ReplyDeleteHugs Mrs A.
Such a pretty card.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours and I can see why you saved that image of the cardinal. Beautiful :)
Beautiful card and I love the cardinal image, all so Christmassy, love it!

Puffed up and majestic! That bird is just awesome, Maureen. Beautiful accents on the card, without shifting focus from that noble bird. LOVE it! Rosie is (dare I say) a little better today. Early days yet, but I hope she sticks with the program! Thanks for your love and prayers. I lit a candle for her health at mass yesterday. Have a great time at the lake.
ReplyDeletehugs, Asha
Beautiful card, Maureen - love the cardinal. My camera has problems with red too, I'm thinking it might be picking up the amount of blue in the red because it often looks a very plummy red to me :( The silver cord is a great embellishment. Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous card, Maureen! Love that cardinal - wish we got them here! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI guess you use cardinals where we use robins, especially on Christmas cards. This was a good bit of recycling, and has made a lovely card. Kate x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card with the wonderful recycled card. I love it. Hugs, joann sassy raggedy
ReplyDeleteLovely card, the picture was well worth recycling. Isn't it annoying when the colours don't photograph correctly.
ReplyDeleteJean x
Oh my gosh, what a beautiful image panel with that brilliant cardinal! I love the snow-covered pinecones and evergreen branches too! Oh So pretty!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely card Mo! I've never seen a red cardinal in the UK - don't think we get them here. Swop you one of Spike's babies for one? :) The twine is a lovely finishing touch too.
ReplyDeleteIt was explained to me ages ago that colours in photos coming out differently when we know they match in real life is all down to the inks used in the printing process. Seems to happen to me a lot!
Hugs, Di xx
Oh Mo this is really lovely you are having fun doing your Christmas cards already :D Shaz in oz.x
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Mo. I do love that image you have recycled. And that silver cord looks great.
ReplyDeleteI called by the other day but couldn't leave a message! Grr!
Hugs
xx
Really lovely card, love that it is recycled too. Very festive xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely card. The red and kraft and the shiny silver make such a great combination.
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd already left you a comment, but it seems that I haven't - I apologise. This is a super card for Mary's CCC challenge and thanks also for linking for my Craftyhazelnut's challenges. x
