Frames - Round II Card 1

Hope you are not too tired of my inked Massa frames as I have another one to show you today.
I used a snippet of teal card for the frame this time and then inked again with two shades of green and some ivory as well.
Much the same drill as last time, but this time a sentiment that would suit many occasions.  I will chose a appropriate sentiment for the insert, once I know what occasion I will use this for.

What luck that I had this  inspirational stamp that fit so perfectly in the square aperture. I think it is an older Stampin Up stamp as it has that hand cut red rubber look to it. There is not a label on the top and no markings of any sort on the sides....Perhaps I forgot to stick the clear sticker on top after I got over the shock of cutting it up! If anyone recognizes it, please let me know.

The DP has a shimmery embossed design. Here is a close up of the sheen...

As many of you know, I survived my personal quest to create 50 cards without spending on consumables. I was much easier than I thought. I celebrated that achievement by attending the local scrapbook garage sale, stocked up on bargains and put myself back into the freezer until I make 50 more! I have actually made several of the further 50 already...but it takes time to organize the blog posts so am a bit behind! I will just make note of the finished cards number in my titles!

Frames and Flowers - Card 50

Di at Pixies Crafty Workshop recently featured this card.  I loved it right off the hop and imediately started thinking about my own flowers. They are getting antsy trapped in those glass jars on my desk...they want out!
Besides, that flower ticker at the top of my blog needs adjusting!

Di's card inspired me to create some floral cards of my own. While rummaging about in the bunkie (summer Art Studio...lol), I found this NBUS Memory Box frame die... Massa Leaf Frame Die. I thought it would make a great frame for my flower. I inked it up with three shades of Invild Bolme Prima chalk inks. I used 2 greens and an ivory ink. They dry almost instantly so are easy to work with. I like the way the inking turned out.

This is the final card of my first 50 cards made from my stash. I was on a consumables spending freeze...no paper, ribbon, embellishments, chipboard, stickers, twine...if it was consumable, I did not buy it. Instead, I shopped my stash. It was fun and surprisingly easy to do

On the other hand, stamps and dies are non consumable and were fair game...but I did not really purchase many of those either. I just got in the habit of not shopping as much and just really enjoyed it. I have challenged  myself to make 50 more...but will just track my progress by adding the card number to my  titles.

Christmas Card Club #16 Trees - My Card #49

This fortnight is was Sylvie at Gibmiss's turn to chose the theme. She chose trees...use a tree anywhere on your card. Right away, I wanted to use a stamp I won last year at Marks Finest Papers. It is my NBUS item for this card.  I loved it when I won it,  and of course still do...but until today, it had never been inked.

This card will be for a friend who is into restoring old vehicles. He will get a kick out of it. I do wish I had coloured it aqua instead of pale blue...it would have showed up more on the card and I have nicer aqua DP. I may just make up a second card and try that colour combination! Once I am home again, I may try a Wink of Stella on the truck, just to perk it up a little.

I kept the card fairly simple. Just a sheet of candy DP from a 6x6 stack and a bit of burlap ribbon behind a snippet of dotty DP from that same stack. Will have to update the stack name later as I am up at the lake...my bad!

The sentiment was prised off a chipboard embellishment. It used to have another dark green circular bit behind it but the shade of green was wrong so I tore it off and substituted a blue scalloped diecut circle.

July Rudolph Days - Card #47 Dashing Again, and Card #48 Who Loves Ya

July 25 can only mean one thing...it is Rudolph Days over at Sarn's Stamping For Pleasure. This is a fun way to get your Christmas cards finished before we are into the busy Christmas season. You have until the end of the month to link your post featuring two Christmas cards.

Card 47 Dashing Again.
I have used this stamp before and loved how easy it was to handle. It takes a 5x7 card base though, and that is not a card size I make very often. But horse themed cards are always popular with my family (and with Little Miss C) so I decided to cut a 5x7 card base and get on with it.

While rummaging about in my snippets files, I found a teensy piece of pink patterned DP...so teensy it was just large enough to cut the Impression Obsession mini snowflake dies. I found they blended in a bit too much so used red diamonds to make them pop a bit more.

 Now, I tried to capture the look of random look of enamel dots that I see everywhere in blogland at the moment. I do not have enamel dots in the right sizes or colours, (and I am on a spending freeze)  so substituted red and pink rhinestones. It is harder than I thought to get that random placement look!

I added a little stardust stickles to her fur hand warmer...just a touch of glitter...it is for Christmas after all.

Card 48 - Who Loves Ya

You would think that I don't have any other Xmas stamps as I have used this one so often! Truth is my daughter loves owls and will probably appreciate a few of these owl cards to send out to her friends.
I tried really hard not to get too mitchy matchy with this one. I wanted it to by a bit zingy...a bit brighter and more vivid than my usual colours. The background paper is highly embossed...has a lovely delicate sheen IRL.

I even remembered to add a little lace on this card...usually I forget to plan some sort of card stock piece to affix it to. I like to hide the raw edges and usually remember my ribbon or lace after everything is glued in place.
 I got on a bit of a roll with the zingy feeling and decided to add some feathers...owls do have feathers after all. Just not sure if they are blue! lol  Here is a close up...

Blessed - Cards #45 & 46 of 50

For most of my life I have not been what you would call lucky...in fact there have even been a few times where I felt quite unlucky indeed!
Since I started this blog it seems my luck has shifted...the gods are smiling down on me or my stars are aligned...or maybe just good old fashioned luck is finally coming my way.

I have been blessed with winning several lovely blog candy prizes, have had random thingy chose my card in challenges, have received some wonderful RAK's and have had lovely parcels arrive in the mail from bloggy friends...just because!!! I am a firm believer in karma so of course I try to reciprocate and to RAK  people as well.

I am going to make more of an effort to put my NBUS (never before used stash) to use. After all, I don't want the givers to think I am the type to have sold the presents off !!! teehee
Lately, I realized that I have been subconsciously avoiding using these "new" supplies and I think it is a bit of  self doubt creeping in.. I don't want the sender to be disappointed...sounds weird I know!!!  So expect to see posts still featuring VOS (very old stash) and NBUS (never before used stash) and when applicable I will mention which NBUS items were actually winnings!

First up is a card made from a stamp set I won at Marks Finest Papers. They have a lot of challenges...one for every day of the week. Prizes are always stamps and I have been lucky and won a few there. I made 2 cards with this stamp.

The first was left as just black ink on white card...ink direct to card I might add. It was scary but I liked the outcome. Then with indrawn breath I stamped the sentiment direct to card as well. Deep breath out...I managed to stamp it straight! Whew. I was so pleased that I didn't muck it up that I left this card as is...almost to remind myself that I can do it! lol


The second is similar but I coloured this one with Prisma Pencils and blended with Gamsol. I am showing both versions and if you  look carefully you will see that the sentiment is in a slightly different place in the second card. Too bad I didn't think to take a photo of them together.

So I am quite pleased with myself. I stretched myself to do this scary direct to card technique and I survived and so did the card...hahahahaha

Fussy Cutting at the RV - Card 44

I  have a kind of fun card to share today. I seem to have a few different "8 card and envelope" packages from the Michael's 25 cent clearance bins. My card today is an example of what I like to do with those.

On rainy days up at the RV, we like to sit in the gazebo and play Aggravation, Scrabble or even play cards. But you can only do that for so long...and then DH heads into the RV and turns on the TV. I am just so not a daytime TV watcher!  I like to sit and fussy cut during these times  Feet up in the recliner and a low salad bowl in my lap to catch the scraps...then I can handle Midsummer Murders in the middle of the day!

Here is a card I made from those card packets. I cut up elements of three cards and treated them like paper piecing. I was able to make two of these cards and still have a few banners left over...might try to see what I can do with them too!

No recipe as there is just basically the card packet cut up  and mounted on a card base I cut and folded myself.

I am stretching this one a bit as the cards were fussy cut last year and pulled out of a baggie and this card made this year....perhaps not true snippets at all...but Miss will stand me in the corner if I have been naughty!

Relaxing in the garden

Seems hard to believe that we have been home almost a week now.  The lawn has been mowed and fertilized..it is still in shock from that! The gardens have been deadheaded and cut back, the weeds have been pulled, and the walks and porch and patio have been hosed down.

Time to enjoy the patio for the weekend and then it is off and back to the lake on Tuesday. Here are a few shots of our work. We are usually never home to see this clematis bloom fully. It has a small bloom but a pretty one.

These lavender and pink variegated Phlox are just starting to bloom...

And these dark fuschia ones are in full bloom at the moment...

The Day Lilies are working their magic

I have a few varieties of Day Lilies that bloom at slightly different times as I like to have blooms all through the season. Here there is a pale yellow and lavender variegated just finishing, a large burgundy and orange almost done, and in the foreground, a small burgundy one just starting to bloom.

There was a shed to be built...don't you love the fancy schmancy door closure! The door still needed fine tuned but the fellows were too beat! That shed weighs 350 pounds!

I think I did a good job of hiding all the faces...so hopefully I have met my daughters wishes of no family faces on the internet.
The last photo is our friend holding the catch of the day...Luckily he does not mind his photo on the internet!

Relaxing - Card 43

I made this Fathers Day card for DH. He loves to go fishing and enjoys the relaxation as much as the sport of fishing.  I thought this card summed that up, quite nicely!  We were not able to celebrate Fathers Day on the official day, so we celebrated it at the end of June, when my girls and grand children joined us at the lake.

Hopefully you will not be too bored, as this is the same image I used on my Son In Law's card shown earlier on this blog.  It just suits SIL and DH so well.  I had to use it!

The fish scale paper is a snippet of scrapbook paper. Wish I had bought more of it at the time. I have one full 12x12 sheet left and will use it for fishing layouts this summer.
The sentiment stamp is from a Costco set purchased many years ago and yet never before used.

Friend - ship - Card 42

I made this card for a friend that used to work with DH before they both retired. Previous to that, He and I worked together for many years...in fact he went on to be the Vice President of my union.

He is coming to visit us up at the lake in July and I have this card ready to give him.  He did us an enormous favour when DH retired and this card is to thank him. The image will have a special meaning for him (that I can not share the details of here).

The wee charm is from England and seemed so appropriate for this card as he was our anchor.
I have used a VOS (very old stash) item on this card. The tag that the anchor is hanging from and the snippet of DP behind the sentiment are actually both tags. They are from a package of aqua, orange, and blue tags and die cuts in various sizes, that I bought at a garage sale...a long, long, time ago. I just liked the aqua/orange colour combo and then never used it! lol    So I hung the anchor from a little tag and trimmed down a larger one to mat the sentiment...mitchy matchy...just the way I like it! My daughters tease me about that... lol

PS My DH did not like the colours I used for the tug boat. He says it would blend in with the water too much.  A brighter, more vibrantly coloured tugboat may make an appearance in the near future!

Christmas Card Club - Teddy Bear (card 41)

This fortnight is was Sue P's turn to chose the theme for our little Christmas Card Club. She chose such a fun one...Christmas Teddy Bears. I have tried to make the best of it but my card is on the plain side.  I may just have to jazz it up a bit once I am home again.

I am up at the lake and made this from the bits and bobs that were left up here from our last few visits.
I did not realize how little DP I had left here. Basically I had a wee bit of Xmas DP , a snippet of brown card, and a couple of felt embellishments. No diecuts, no stamps, no image and no ribbon! Silly me...

Thank goodness, I did manage to find 3 square cream coloured cards.

So from a fat lot of nothing, my very basic card emerged. With a decided lack of dies of any sort, I free form cut the first layer, a snippet of burgundy poinsettia DP. I tried to keep the edges random as I did not have a guillotine with me either.

I had an old birthday card that I managed to pilfer the teddy bear image from.  I free form cut the bear image off it and then did the same to create a brown mat. I cut up one of the extra square cards, just to create a cream mat to help the image pop a bit off the paper.

With that done, I now had a birthday bear on a Xmas background. I placed the felt Xmas wreath in his paw and cut two tips off some felt branches...now they looked like felt corner pieces!

Whew! Now my birthday bear looked a little more like Xmas...
I thought I was going to have to hand write a sentiment, but I found a snippet of Christmas word DP and fussy cut out "Merry Christmas".

Finally...my Xmas teddy bear card was done and dusted. In retrospect, I wish I had roughed up the edges of the image and of the layers of matting and DP! Oh well... I may try to add some bling once home...perhaps outline the edges of the random cutting with generous lines of stickles!

A Sea of Birthday Greetings - Card 40

This was a fun card to make.  I used five stamps together to create a sentiment card. It gives a kind of homemade subway art look. It was fun to do and I think I will try it again as the stamp possibilities are endless!

The images are done with chalk and a Qtip so are a bit over the lines...another of my "watercolour look" booboo's. More seashells prised off the dollar store scrapbook borders that are eons old.

Happy Birthday daughter of mine - Card 39

I made this card for my youngest daughter, the mother of my grandchildren.

The image has special meaning as my granddaughter bought a box of vintage and old fashioned cards for 50 cents at a garage sale. She has plans to upcycle the images. They are that lovely old fashioned paper...the kind that has a bit of texture to the paper and yet has no sheen...a lovely flat, slightly linen type paper. She carefully carried the box into my house, and we sat down and looked through them together. She thoughtfully chose this card to give me for my stash...what a little sweetie!

She was so happy to give me this image to use and is looking forward to seeing what I made with it. She is 7 years old and is a card maker herself, so knows the joy of a unique image!

I added a few green diamonds to the flower centres and a  teensy miniature 3D butterfly and ladybug.
The green filigree look in the  orders as a spellbinder die that was torn, so I cut it apart and slid it between the layers for a little corner detail.

Birthday Bliss - Card 38

It is my Son-in-Law's birthday in a couple of days. This relaxing image works out perfectly for his card, as he is an avid fisherman.  He keeps their family freezer full tasty fish, but does a lot of catch and release fishing too. We just drove the kiddies over to the Douglas Lake Ranch for their annual Dad's and kids fishing derby. Several families go each year and together they create great family memories of
star filled nights ad lazy days fishing from shore or out in the boats they haul up there.

My Son-In-Law has very strong opinions of the flavour and taste of certain fish and only catches them to eat at particular times. His rules are stricter than the fishing licence rules here, so we tease him about that!
I included a tape measure ribbon on his card as he is so strict he will throw back what actually is legal size here...I think he will get a kick out that ribbon.

I even added one of my precious fish charms from England. It is my last one but he is so worth it.

The birthday sentiment on this card is NBUS. New, but never before used, none the less! Many of you know that I have been on a consumables freeze for quite some time. I recently rewarded myself with some non consumables...this Tim Holt stamp set and a couple of new dies.
The wee tags are a VOS (very old stash) item. They are from a huge package of 20 sheets of press out die cuts that I purchased a few years ago at a scrapbook garage sale. Good to finally use some of them!

Under the Sea - Card 37

We had a couple days away visiting our good friends who live up on the Sunshine Coast of BC.
We drive for about an hour to get to Horseshoe Bay and then take a 40 minute ferry ride up the coast. Once on land again,we drive along the ocean for another hour till we reach their village.

Perhaps it was all that time at the ocean's edge but I seem to be on a roll with making water themed cards ever since! Here is the first of my Under the Sea themed cards.

The image was coloured with Stampin' Up chalks and a Qtip. The colour is really over the lines but I am pretending that it is supposed to look like a watercolour!!!    lol

The sand dollar is a die cut that I chalked as well,  but in keeping with my efforts to reduce my stash, the sea shells are little bits that I prised off  some old dollar store scrapbook borders.  I have been working away at using up those old borders as they are so hopelessly out of style for my scrapbooking. They are 3 dimensional and do have some lovely glittering edges, so work out well for cards.

The design papers are just snippets from my scrap files. The blue weathered woodgrain DP is the last snippet of this paper. I can't remember the name of it so if anyone recognizes it, let me know.
I added the pearls as they are another thing associated with under the sea!
