Happy Canada Day...time for parades, flags proudly flying, painted faces, breakfast of pancakes with Canadian maple syrup and perhaps a tasty Sockeye Salmon supper!
Time to get cracking on with my Christmas cards for July. I try to do three every month, so here is my first for July.
I love this cute image and have to admit I chose the papers before I coloured him!
I chose the papers to colour match with the sentiment...I know it sounds weird but I wanted to use this prestamped sentiment and it just seemed too bold to be able to match elements to.
Usually I use 6 x 6 pads of design paper when I make cards. I only have access to 6" or 5 1/2"square cards and envelopes locally...so the 6x6 paper pads suit this purpose. Every now and again I find a 12x12 design paper that works...like these ones...
Each year my scrapbook store has a huge sale after Christmas...papers often go for 75% off...once they even had an 80% reduction!! I try to stock up then, for the following year. These are from one of those sales. The red stripe on the stripey paper is heavily glittered. It is matted on a piece of My Minds Eye Bright Buddy Boy Little Jacks Engine paper. Both are a heavy weight paper like a firm cardstock. I thought they would tie in the trim colours on the sentiment...and then I just added some snippets of various 6x6 pads.
Once I had it all laid out, I was able to see the shades I wanted to use for my colouring.
Recipe
Scalloped card and envelope - candy from Sassy Raggedy
DP - Stripe, Making Memories Twinkle / Red mat My Minds Eye Bright Buddy Boy Little Jacks Engine
DP - Banner green dots MME Christmas, Lime Green Dots Catra Bella Merry and Bright These were all snippets
Sentiment - I think it was K and Co...it is from my stash
Bling - from my stash (Dollarama)
I am entering this card in the following challenges:
1. Pixies Crafty Workshop - must use snippets
2. CHNC Extra - must be Christmas but anything goes
3. MFP Speedy TV Christmas Card Challenge
4. Sister Act - Always Anything goes
5. CNHC - All wrapped up
6. The Squirrel and the Fox - #47 Christmas in July
7. Christmas Stampin' All Year Long - Inspiration (I was inspired by the gorgeous shade of green on those tiles. I used that shade for the snowman's scarf and in one of the DP's)
The first two lines are enough to make me hungry Maureen, I could just beat those pancakes right now.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas card it's quite delightful and I love how cleverly you have combined the different patterns together.

Nice card Mo - love the greens... Mxx
ReplyDeleteI like your layout for your design and the papers are scrummy too. Must admit I always do it the other way colour first and then have a mad time trying to find a paper to match. As my papers are mostly digital it means opening and closing loads of files unless I have them in my snippets pile already part used! Der.

Sorting the papers first was worth it Maureen - the papers, sentiment and stamped image all work beautifully together. I try to pick my papers before colouring but don't always remember to when I get excited about inking and colouring a new stamp lol! Karen x

Very pretty! A great combination of papers (colors and designs) and a super cute snowman. Thanks for playing with CSAYL.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous papers,(loved that you got 'em on sale too!) and they made such a stunning layout. Good idea to pick papers, layout, then colors in your focal image to tie in. I need to remember that, as I do image first, then hunt for something suitable. Great card all round. Good luck at Pixie's P.grnd. Some good prizes this week. TFS & Hugs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet image and great colorful Christmas papers! Reminds me I need to get started with my Christmas cards soon too...
ReplyDeleteI love how colorful your card is!! I think it is fine to build around one element in a card. I too love using and making 6x6. Just looks better to me. And it is so true about the after Christmas sales at the craft store. I don't know why they do it, it isn't like paper goes bad!! Right? LOL!!
