Bit of a different view of my desktop today. This is the entire south wall of my craft room. . Usually my desktop photos are taken in that left side of the photo...in front of the glass jars, under the hanging white shelves. As you can see the counter top extends way over to the right and there is another opening to place a second chair. Yes...I am ashamed to say the ribbon and lace have not been put away yet!
I decided to show you that "right" side of my desk today.
This is where my neighbour Lisa sits, when she comes over to craft. The counter top is about 12 feet long altogether and actually tucks another 16 inches behind those tall cupboards.
I utilize that hidden, tucked away area to store stacking boxes full of card projects in various stages of assembly. There are boxes of card UFO's; boxes of precut card kits for lazy day creating; boxes of kiddie birthday card kits for the grandchildren's visits, boxes of card embellishments, etc.
Just above Lisa's chair is a hanging cupboard. I store all my prefolded card bases in those 4 black boxes on the bottom shelf. I had to store the matching envelopes separately as I did not have room here. They are all typical Canadian sized card bases. I bought them just as I started getting into card making. I was lured by a huge 75% or maybe even 80% off clearance sale, when one of our local scrapbook stores changed owners.
Fast forward to blogging and actually learning more about card making and seeing other people's gorgeous 6x6 heavy weight card bases and suddenly mine seem so flimsy and tiny! I am on a campaign to use them up so have been using them to make the birthday cards for the grandkids pals They are also suited to note card type cards ( like Hello or Thinking of you) as they are lightweight enough to use to write a bit of a letter in. I am also using these for the series of cards I am making to mail each fortnight to my daughter in Monaco. I keep those to the $1.80 international postage so if the card base is light I have room to tuck in more pages of letter writing or perhaps some artwork from Little Miss C and Little Mr P.
The little brown woven baskets on that first shelf hold a few teensy self inked, word stamps. I love these as they come in handy to just add one word to a tiny tag. There are some date stamps in those bins as well...My trusty label maker sits in the brown woven basket on the right.
Second shelf hold my 5 1/2 x5 1/2 corrugated cards (both finished ones and new ones) and also holds my 5 x 5 white cards. My large and small Zyron machines and glue gun refills are on the right..
Cricut cartridges are on the third shelf with stamp cleaner refills and archival mist in that bin on the right. I save stamp cleaner containers as there are recipes on Pinterest to make your own. I have made one up for Little Miss C.
Fourth shelf has a metal box of puffs for chalking as Little Miss C prefers to chalk the edges of card elements. She likes that if she gets carried away with putting too much on, she can just erase it off again!!!
There are a couple rows of old fashioned acrylic paints and scrapbook paints at the back. I know they are out of style but every now and again I use them, so hate to throw them away! I am just a pack rat at heart!
The photo paper for my Epsom Picture Mate is over on the far right.
Top shelf needs a raised step to reach anything so it stores bits for scrapbook UFOs. The far right is a stack of finished 8x8 pages for a album I'm working on for my Mum. I haven't been scrapbooking as much since I discovered I'd rather make cards, so this stuff seemed a good choice to tuck way up there!

ReplyDeletehi your space looks wonderful, i'm so jealous - can we swap woyww#77
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I am not at all well, I have a very bad case of "room envy"!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab room you have - that counter is what I would love. Have one but it holds all my boxes and things so reduces to next to nothing to craft on.
Lovely organisation but I love the desk and counter the most.
Thanks for sharing - Hugs, neet xx (2)
I'd like you to come over and take care of my craft room, please! LOL How do you do it?!?! It's my dream room!

Hi ya, what great pictures - love seeing where other people craft.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a lot of stuff! You might even have more than me, and that would be going some!!!
Such a cute card in your previous post as well - the image is just adorable.

I Love how organised everything looks, so beautiful x
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW and have a great week Heather#133
Thanks for the visit. I am counting the hours before my big crop. Looking forward to craft time and especially time to laugh with my friends.
ReplyDeleteRegarding your cards you bought on sale. They may not be 6x6 di mension but if you layer your pattern papers on them they won't feel so thin. I have a bunch of cards that you know those card snobs might not consider high quality but once you embellish them, they hold their own.
Nice look at your room. Very tidy. Mine looks better since a big bunch is going to the crop. I might have to hide my desk for next week's WOYWW because I tend to dump and run when I return from crops! Have a blessed day!

Thank you for the royal tour today, Maureen! You are an efficiency expert!! I love how organized you are and how you have that extra chair so now all of your readers feel like they can come over at any time and sit there and craft with you. How fun would that be?!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about knocking Lisa off the chair. I think if we don't look down at her, she will just start coloring from her perch on the floor. Nhn, no, no, don't look down, just keep working. There, you see? It's all good!
Have a wonderful week! Darnell #42
A lovely organised work space. That's how I like mine too. Spain's basic envelopes are very small too, and need only a flimsy card in them to keep below the standard postage rate.I have a huge stash of standard british A6, L and square cards which I prefer to use, so I just have to 'bite the bullet' when it comes to posting them! Thanks for showing us your lovely desk. Kate x #57
ReplyDeleteYou are so organised! i love seeing everyone's storage solutions! Mo xxx #83

ReplyDeleteMaureen, this is such an organized, tidy space, and you must love getting in there & creating. I need to have you pay a visit to me!!! I wanted to let you know I've passed on the Liebster Award which I was recently given by Kay (of 505whimsygirl), and when you have time, pop over to copy & paste the award to one of your blog posts. Then you can pay it forward! Congratulations, and you certainly deserve it. Hope Ms C & Mr. P are both doing well, and missing seeing their art work (I'm behind on surfing Uhgin!). Hugs & TFS an inspirational work area!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a lovely comment. however, you need to credit Linda (here http://cain81art.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/day-two-of-my-tutorials-at-paperartsy.html ) for the inspiration as I was only following her challenge!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room! It all looks so tidy and organised, and makes me look forward even more to creating my new room when we move house.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and lovely comment - yes, it's a huge job, but we'll get there in the end. Had a major session at mum's today with my sis and cleared a massive amount - I can't believe how clear it all looks now!
Happy belated WOYWW,

ReplyDeleteWow what a fantastic room. Mine would fit into about a quarter of it!!
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen, lovely room - I particularly like the built in furniture, give a very streamlined and tidy look. And your bird cages and birds are just super too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on yesterday's post. Boiled fruit cake is made by boiling the fruit, sugar, margarine in water and then leaving to cool. This plumps up the fruit and once the flour and egg are mixed in and it is baked in the oven the result is a delicious moist cake. Definitely one of my most favourite cakes and the EM is ace at making them.
Enjoy the weekend. Elizabeth x #55
You have so much gorgeous space, and it is all so tidy. Can you come and do mine, please. It is getting hard to find somewhere to put my feet even. Thank you for your lovely comment on my two cards. Have a good day, and I hope your weather is better than ours. xx Maggie
