Made my very first fancy folded card...I googled how to make one and was super nervous and read the directions 3 or 4 times. Well, I should have read them again because I made mistakes assembling it!
I'm not sure if i made the right kind of card, but it was fun doing it and this was a great challenge theme.
I used a Sizzix die that I had never used before and didn't realize that just like card stock has a right and wrong side after you have cut it, so would a die cut card, as the blades would create a smooth and a raised side as they cut through.
I should have folded my card the opposite way so that the smooth side of the cut on the main card would be visible. Instead you get a view of the rough, cut edge when it is open. I wondered why it didn't want to stay sitting open properly! I cut a sample card first and folded it correctly (by total fluke). It sits open very nicely and has a nice smooth front view...not so much this one! I had to struggle with it a bit to sit nicely.
Here is a look from the other side Now sometimes you can't win for trying...I managed to stamp the sentiment off center vertically and didn't even notice until I had already glued it down! Wanted to get it up on my blog in time for club viewing, but will restamp and recut the sentiment a smidge smaller, and then just glue it over this one. Hopefully it will just look like a double mat!

A lovely fold to this card. Love the two different images. Christine x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely FAB Maureen!! I can't see any problems at all with the die cutting.Love the colours and design you used.
ReplyDeleteIf you do have a raised edges from die cutting - not that I can see any - you can often flatten them by running the back of a fingernail along the edge. Ha! Ask me how I know this :))
Hugs, Di xx
This is fabulous Maureen, love the fold - think it's much nearer the mark than mine is! Catch you in the playground! Carol x

Maureen it's lovely. Hope you don't mind but I've learnt that if you I cut stuff roughly using a bone folder or scoring tool helps it to sit smoother and hides the rough edges a little.
ReplyDeleteHowever it's still a beautiful card, love the colour and the image, and woudln't have noticed the edge if you hadn't said anything lol! Karen x
WOW, I think the card looks absolutely fabulous!!!

PS as for alcohol free Lent, it was either that or give up the chocolate! Tough choice but there is that time in a girls life when she needs chocolate, and twice during Lent!!

With all the snow we still have this is a perfect card ;)
ReplyDeleteYou card is beautiful
I have made a card like this when I first started to make cards...I thought it was called a flip card..it seems there are 3 names for each card type, lol.
I think it will look like a matt if you re-stamp it on another piece.
Wow this is a real stunner Maureen!!! there are so many different variations of a tri-fold/3 fold card and this fits in perfectly with Debi's challenge for the CCC. You are very brave for attempting it hun as don't think I could make one without pulling my hair out!!!!. The stamps are gorgeous by the way. I am so glad that you have joined us girls at the CCC and can't wait to see more of your creations. Big hugs Clare xxxx

ReplyDeleteOh, Maureen, this is so lovely, and I'm so proud of you with your 1st folded card (I've yet to do one, so am REALLY IMPRESSED!). We must be twins, telling on ourselves for boo-boos, because I didn't see one thing wrong with your very pretty card. Not even the sentiment you said was stamped wrong. Looked good to me! (But then I'm the one who glued my card front down wrong, so take it for a grain of salt! :-) I LIKE your card. I also enjoy reading about 'mistake saves' .....it helps me a lot. I recognized a much loved PB sticker too! Great use of it here. TFS
ReplyDeleteWow Maureen this is awesome I love that image and the simplicity of the design, that card fold looks fantastic.
